Budget cuts. These are the words that people don’t want to hear on the news every night. Budget cuts only hamper the might of militaries and make countries even more defenseless. Therefore, I think that the military shouldn’t have to cut their defense Over 70 years ago, the United States was in the bloodiest war in the history of mankind. New weapons were being developed at a very fast pace, and factories were producing over 60,000 aircraft, 125,000 tanks, and 55,000 AA guns, which adds up to 164 aircraft, 342 tanks, and 150 AA guns per day. At this rate, the United States was out-producing Germany and Japan combined. World War II was a war all about out- producing the enemy. If a country could out-produce another country, then …show more content…

That’s exactly what happened during WWII. During the Battle of Midway, the IJN lost four of its fleet carriers, the Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu, and a heavy cruiser. The US Navy lost the Yorktown and a destroyer. At around that time, the US already was building over 100 carriers, some of them were already on their way to the Pacific, but most of them were being built. The Japanese on the other hand, had 6 being built, but very slowly. During the final months of the war, a new weapon was being tested: the world’s first atom bomb. The Manhattan Project had a $2 billion, or $26 billion in today’s currency, budget to develop said weapon. The reason for this, was because, during the early 1940’s, Germany was receiving large amounts of heavy water (deuterium oxide) for a secret project. Heavy water is one of the main ingredients in an atomic bomb. When the Allies knew about this, the Norwegians sent a special task force to destroy the heavy water plant in Telemark, Norway. The Norwegian team succeeded in destroying the plant and halting Germany’s nuclear weapons program. If the United States wasn’t able to spend that amount of money on a weapons program, …show more content…

But if budget cuts are in place, the military won’t be able to defend the U.S. from foreign invaders like ISIS or North Korea. Many countries have fallen to foreign invaders due to the fact that A) their military wasn’t able to defend it properly due to a shortage of weapons and technology, and B) budget cuts were in place. Before the Second World War, Nazi Germany fielded the largest army in the world. By the end of 1944, the Nazis weren’t able to send enough supplies to its troops because of a lack of funding, and fuel, to help them out. If the United States were to go into a Third World War, it wouldn’t be able to fight as well due to the fact that the budget cuts now in place have hampered the defense of this nation. As a result, the United States would probably get invaded and destroyed. The military relies on spending to develop new weapons to counter anything that the enemy might employ on the battlefield and be able to defend it for the years to come. Budget cuts only hamper the defense of a nation to the point where it can be easily invaded by foreign invaders. Before World War II, the United States was
