At People First our objective is to facilitate agricultural development in rural Nigeria and to encourage harmony between the Nigerian government and its rural population. Our organization believes that due to its abundant agricultural resources Nigeria has the potential to reduce rural poverty through agricultural development. Therefore, at People First, we propose several initiatives to be taken in order to facilitate agricultural development in rural Nigeria in partnership with the Nigerian authorities.

Our organization encourages the Nigerian government to reduce its reliance on oil revenue, therefore diversifying the Nigerian economy. Today oil accounts for 80% of government revenue in Nigeria, although oil accounts for only 15% of the GDP. Our organization plans to work with Nigerian authorities to make agriculture their first economic priority. The Nigerian government must understand the importance of agricultural development in sustaining large growing populations. Therefore, in order to facilitate self-sufficiency Akinwumi Adesina, Nigeria’s agriculture minister, said last year, “In Nigeria, we’re making agriculture the new oil.”(Adesina, 2014) by developing agriculture in Nigeria the economy will diversify reducing the impact of oil supply and demand on the economy. Therefore, reducing economic inequality between the urban and rural population in return reducing the percentage of Nigerians who live below the poverty line. Furthermore, we believe that our objective will develop Nigeria into an agricultural center in Africa self-sufficient in producing its own needs, but also exporting products to neighboring countries.
