is not afraid of his community, he embraces it. Many co-curricular activities are offered at different colleges, a world class engineering student understands his limits and doesn’t join them all , but joins the ones that he feels are the most beneficial for him. By becoming a part of his community, a world class engineering student becomes a better student.
When I first entered college, I didn’t know what to expect and was scared of everyone, for some reason I had developed the idea that college life means that I am completely on my own. For the first two weeks of college, I would come to class, not talk to anyone and right after class go home and work on my homework.I never considered joining a co-curricular activity. Slowly I started to

Throught personal development, he strengthens his academic success strategies, he does this by simply observing how he is learning. To simply observe your learning, three things need to be done. You must plan, monitor and evaluate your learning. When planning your learning decide when and what you will be learning. Then monitor you learning by observing if you are on the right track. Lastly, when you are finished, evaluate how you learned and how you can learn differently next time. Being in class is also important to a world class engineer student but you must know what to do before and after class in order to be successful. Before class, a world class engineering student reviews what he knows and what was taught last class. During class, he concentrates and takes notes, and after class he reviews what he just learned. A world class engineer doesn’t have bad habits, and if he does, he fixes them. The good habits he has include, good listening skills, taking notes, welcomes difficult tasks, ask questions, and fights distractions. Even though he may spend lots of time at school, he still manages his time wisely, and knows when to take a break. He still makes time for family and friends but his goals are still in the back of his mind. A world class engineering student is realistic and understands the consequences if his choice to study engineering even when his friends want to hang out, and
I began to look at college as a fresh start of life. I had the opportunity to change anything I want about myself. However, the day before leaving, I wanted to change my mind, I no longer wanted to leave everything that I have known for my entire life. But, I refused to show my new feelings because I knew it was a common feeling among other college bound freshman. After some tears and deep breathes, I realized I always wanted to go away to school and if I backed out, I would regret my decision for the rest of my life.
I would always have more than enough time to excel in my studies as I breezed through the semester with exceptional grades. As the second semester rolled around, it got me thinking that I was not too happy about the way I went about the first term. I promised myself that I would become active in social groups and put myself out there. I am currently midway through my second semester and wow has my life changed for the better. I have associated myself with a fraternity, met more people and have been genuinely happy with the social aspect of life.
The reason I say laziness is I have but myself in many situations where I didn’t do any work and I would go to work and home to watch TV. I wouldn’t even glance at my homework. I do strongly believe that a side of me will want to start to slack off and one I start I’ll never stop. During college is when you meet the friends of a lifetime. The relationship you build with them is going to be important and also the type of person they are. A big challenge is going to be if you are able to take toxic people out of your life while you are going through this time in your life. Will they distract me from my goal do they have the same values as I do. Freedom is a big part of starting college. There is no one is forcing you to go to class. Being able to go out for entertainment like go to a concert, hang out late with friends and being able to go to parties/ clubs. Which can become a big distraction? So I know I’m going to have to set myself some limits and be on top of my work so I can get the college experience. The college experience is important for many reasons. The first being you get to explore and figure out who you are what are your likes and
College can be a scarce transition for individuals, especially for the ones who have lived at home their whole lives. While college is said to be one of the best experiences, there are negative factors that eventually add up. Students who live under their parents roofs or attend high school, usually have their day-to-days lives planned. A typical day in the life of a student may be going to school for eight hours, participating in an activity after school, coming home to a home-cooked meal, and going to bed. Where, college is the first year a student may experience more independence and a non-planned agenda. Most individuals know when going to college they’re going to miss the familiar feeling of their hometown, home-made meals, and their own
College has a extensive impact on a person that some people simply don’t realize. When I first started college, I was a little close-minded and unsure about what it was I wanted to do with the rest of my life. When I was halfway through my freshman year, I decided to completely change my path in life. I left ECU, moved into an apartment, transferred to Pitt and declared my major intended sonography. Then suddenly I hated what I was doing, I had to take a step back and truly evaluate my life and what it was I was meant to do. I was completely lost. Then one day I received a text from a friend telling me to apply to a hospital located in Chesapeake, Virginia. I did, and I got the job. When I told my parents they were less than thrilled, they didn’t like the idea of me taking a year off from school to work, but I thought long and hard about what was best for me and decided it was something I was meant to do, it was the path I needed to follow. I worked for a year while living at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. I was completely independent, providing for myself 100 percent. While working this job, I realized that what I wanted to do and what I was called to do in life was become a nurse, which is something I would have never figured out had I not seriously weighed my options
“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” (Keller) College is definitely a challenge, but it is also a very beautiful thing. Many students enter college expecting knowledge and a sense of direction. It may be hard to balance school between work, you’re social life, life at home, personal issues, etc. A few challenges that I know about all too well have to deal with money, transportation, and procrastination. You spend all of high school listening to your teachers and parents preparing you for what is to come in the near future. The truth is that there is only one way of truly learning, from experience.
I have many more experiences to go through the next few years of my life, so I hope that I use whatever solitude I get to my benefit. I 'm excited to incorporate time alone into my college years because I think many college students get lost in their thoughts because of their busy schedules, and don 't know how to ever be in peace. College is a time where many students seek out their true identity, and the only way to find it is through solitude. I believe I 'll be a student that continues to learn about myself as I seek solitude in the upcoming years.
Starting college is an intense and confusing event that plagues all recent high school graduates. It is like trying to run when all you can do is crawl, and for many freshmen, myself included, one can get easily overwhelmed by the daunting task of picking a major when less than two months ago some of our parents still packed our lunches for us every morning. The concept of entering college tends to be frequently skewed and expecting an eighteen year old to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives, without having them actually experiment in different areas, has the potential to create a generation of adults who are aggravated and depressed in their careers.
The Christian worldview makes the profession of engineering both justified and more purposeful. Although Christian engineers are not called to be full-time ministers, they are abel to glorify God and be a shining light through ethical, diligent work in the engineering field. For this reason, Christian students going into the field of engineering can be excited and honored to play such a unique role in God’s
In college, I will also be exposed to new clubs and activities. I feel that club and after school activities can make a person more involved and give a person the right qualities to become a leader. Involvement in extra events has provided a balance for rigorous course study. With the pressures that college brings, I will probably want to be involved in many groups.
As a young undergraduate, I attempted to prove myself as a hardworking student by attending my courses focused and well prepared, and conducting my assignments as required. Through my undergraduate studies, I was fortunate to participate in several student and voluntary activities. Furthermore, determinant to acquire relevant practical experience, I trained and worked at several establishments applying my theoretical ed...
You’ve heard the advice before “get involved, join a club”, at the University of Montana (UM) we are a very large commuter college, involvement is a good way to develop relationships with other students and to create a sense of community for yourself and others.
The college life certainly has its share of fears, cheers, and jeers, but it really can be a worthwhile endeavor. The most important task is to find the college niche, that little place that just feels right, and not just the first time. Once I found clubs, organizations, jobs, and social circles in which I felt like a valued participant, I really seemed to be at home, and that's not something I could have found just by being matched with good roommates or schmoozing at a toga party.
In college a student should question what it means to be part of a clique. Although they were popular in high school, many students do not belong to cliques in college. In fact, being involved in a clique simply portrays a student as being scared to make new contacts and expand his or her world. In sum, how a person socializes in college can lead to one’s development or downfall. Losing track of goals is the last thing a student wishes to do. How we socialize tells our classmates and future employers who we are. Socialization in college makes us open ourselves to the world, and in so doing, we must assume responsibility for all our choices.
In contrast to this individualist stance, E.R.Braithwaite describes early in his book To Sir, With Love (hereafter ‘the book’) how his race had mitigated against his acquiring an engineering position for several years, despite excellent qualifications. He reacts to these difficulties by presenting his students with many examples of the interdependency of humanity: the brotherhood of Man.
