A basketball coach is responsible for more than just instructing the game of basketball. In my opinion, a coach’s success is determined by factors more important than the number under the win column. His or her program must contain a set of goals, core values, and philosophy that the entire program lives and breathes by. For me, as a coach, my goals will go beyond just winning, but how I impact lives, teach lessons, and for my players to improve and learn every day. I will emphasize a variety of traits my players will be held accountable for on the court, as well as off the court. The most important key to my program will be our core values. For me, my goals will be the following: impact the lives of my players positively, teach my players life lessons, make the sport of basketball fun, and for my players to improve and learn every day. As a coach, my players will be around me day in and day out. I will be a leader, and an away-from-home father figure. Therefore, my goal will to be to impact the lives of my players in a way that will impact their lives, positively, outside of basketball. It is crucial that all players understand their assignments, as well as, the assignments of their teammates to the right and left of them. A team that works together is a tough team to beat. I will also emphasize gritty-in-your-face defense. I would love to run a tough man defense and switch into a trapping-zone throughout the game. I will strongly reiterate the importance of rebounding. Every time the ball is the air, my players must have a body on their man. With great defense and rebounding we will be able to create turnovers, reduce second chance points, and turn defense into offense by running the floor in transition. I prefer pushing the ball up the floor, however, in circumstances where we will play half-court offense, ball movement will be key. While facing man-to-man defenses, I will implement an offense with multiple off-ball and on-ball screens, allowing a free-flowing offense. On the other hand, when it comes to zone defenses, we will adjust accordingly. Whether we’re up against a 2-3, 1-3-1, 1-2-2, or a 2-1-2 zone defense, ball movement is crucial, our sets will emphasize
