The implication of working part-time during study among student KPTM KL
In Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Kuala Lumpur
Chapter 1 – Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
The level of student achievement in the academic field can be evaluated in terms of academic achievement and also from their attendance. If they can attend to all the classes and pay full attention while in class it can give goods results in examinations and complete their study. However, there is one big factor that can affect their academic achievement, attendance, and also the current focus in the classroom there is working part-time during study. Nowadays many students do a part-time job while studying. We will find the implication and the effect before we distribute a few questions to the respondent and based on that, we will know the answer from the respondents and a researcher will evaluate the problem.I have chose KPTM KL as our reference to complete this task.
1.2 Statement of the problem
According to rules of Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Kuala Lumpur, a student’s who fails to fulfill eighty percent (80%) of the total attendance for each subject without permission will be barred from sitting final examination. This is a serious matter and student who don’t follow the rules, will be strictly taken an action by management. The attendance in class is important part whereas students are in process of learning. There are several effect if student doing a part-time job. One of the effect is some student are working until midnight, so they have to sleep lately which could make them tired all day and they will be late or missing the class. Beside that, student cannot study or do their homework at home after class because they have to work...

In the first part of the article, parental influence on the student’s educational attainment is explored. According to the authors, parent educational level can determine the child’s educational attainment. This is due to highly
Summary: In the essay, “Part-time Employment Undermines a Student’s Commitment to School” by Laurence Steinberg, it explains how studies show that teenagers that work while attending school are more likely to loose their commitment to school. Steinberg tells the effects on students when they work more than twenty hours a week. His theory was that students are more susceptible to losing their interest in school, while working. They may have to work in the evening time, which can interfere with homework, sleep and diet. Steinberg also elaborated on how these students that work receive money that can make school seem less desirable. Also because they do receive money, they can use their extra money to become associated with drugs and alcohol.
College is an expensive investment nowadays, and financial aid is not enough to cover everything that is going to be invested. That is why many college students get a part-time job while attending college. The main reason why students prefer to work a part-time is because they benefit in some important fields, not only with expenses. College students who work part time most likely are to benefit on transportation, time management, and have workplace experience.
When Steinberg was doing his research on high school students he had to use a variety of measurements in order to come to the conclusion that work effects school. “We compared the grades of students who work… with those who work in limited amounts or not at all.” (1). He also looked at how much time
School days starting later would help improve student attendance by a lot! For example, a copious amount of students oversleep which results in lateness to school. However, if school started at least one to two hours later, then the students perhaps will not be late, and as a result, they can...
While studying or even registering for a class presents a challenge to some college students, the greatest obstacle remains, going to class. Attending college is supposed to signify a new found freedom to make many important choices regarding education without high school mandatory attendance policies. However, students everywhere are coming to the staggering realization that college is not too different from high school. Teachers still take class roll and students are still expected to be at every class on time. What next, hall monitors in the hall? The time has come for action to be taken. Colleges must abolish mandatory student attendance policies for several reasons to be further discussed.
Throughout the years, researchers have seen an increase in time for students spent studying and in school while there has also been a decline in time spent in active sports and out-of-doors activities over the past twenty years. ( 'Changing Times of American Youth: 1981-2003 '). Teachers assign students their usual daily pile of homework which leads to students feeling stressed as to what they must complete after school. Students are expected to manage their time according to their teacher’s schedule considering that they may not even be able to complete each assignment given to them. According to a study, students aged between six to seventeen spend on average a maximum of four hours each night completing homework. (By the Numbers: Homework).
Nowadays, more students do part-time job during their school days to earn money or to have practical experience. In this essay, I am going to compare and contrast the different attitudes toward students doing part-time job in China and USA. In China, there are only a few types of part-time job, such as shopkeeper and working in factories. However, in USA, it is possible for students to work in various kinds of shop or even work as intern in companies. As a result, there are
The boss should apply the policy of absenteeism and tardiness, as excessive absenteeism is punish and is clearly mentioned in the employee’s handbook.
Nowadays in the era of globalization, students are encouraged to have work part-time that will create them to become more experienced in their future, teach them to become more independent and mature in real life. Although the students have enough money to pay their fees and able to accommodate the necessities of life but we totally agree that the working part-time should be encouraged because work part-time can give more benefits to students. According to King and Bannon (2002, p. 2), more than 50 percent of full-time students have jobs and “nearly 46% of all full-time employed students work 25 hours or more.” As students work more, they have less time to become engaged in campus life both inside and outside the classroom. Many students love to have part-time jobs. Their parents approve it easily as they are said to gain experience from working. However, having a job is a big responsibility for a student. Before, teenagers at their age were working to help their family because of poverty. Nevertheless, they were actually eager to study and learn at school for their future. It was not the same as the students nowadays where they are more likely competing to each other to have a job. Most of the students are working part-time jobs and some have the intention to work. When we are in any fast food restaurant, supermarket or shop, there are must be school students who are working. Besides, students can gain a lot of experiences, students should be encouraged to work part-time because they can learn new skills and learn how to manage their financial properly.
Nowadays, universities are open place for all people. More and more educational chances have been created for those who want to acquire knowledge from colleges and universities. While registering for a college course seems to be no longer complicated, there still remains an obstacle that has been triggered so much controversy in academic environment: mandatory attendance policy. This policy, which is imposed by some schools or some professors, requires that college student must attend class regularly enough or their exam papers will be extracted some attendance points (that usually count for about 15 or 20 percent of the total grade evaluation). In my opinion, this policy is useless and burdensome to many people involved. University students should be free in choosing which classes to attend.

Being a college student alone can be stressful enough, but attending college while working a job can be quite stressful in some cases. College itself is not too bad and working a job typically isn 't ridiculous, but unfortunately most students have to attempt both if they wish to further their education. Usually students who juggle both are not doing it for fun. Attempting both at the same time, can become a very stressful life with lots of negative effects. There are two major negative effects of working while in college, however, there is one positive effect working while in college. The two adverse effects that most college students who work are dealing with is struggling to maintaining grades, with the possibility of dropping out and learning to function on a low amount of sleep. The one positive effect of working a job while in college is that the student becomes very prepared for the future.
When students are working and attending school part-time the results can be good or bad depending on his or her life situation. Should you work or should you go to school? Doing both can be possible if you just work around your schedule, and give yourself time to do your school work and attend your classes. Students are increasingly likely to work while in college. Not only are students more likely to work, but they are more likely to work a full-time job while going to school.
Another important difference in students time management that is mainly affected by the learners motivation in school and at university. The motivation of school students is comes from parents and teachers, who reward or punish students for keeping up their studies. Students are unexpected to plan or do anything besides follow the timetable and study schedule from teachers. When a student moves on to undertake university study at undergraduate level, there is demanded to be more self-motivated and independent learning. Such as plan a learning programme that takes into consideration time available for study. As Marshall and Rowland (1993, 41) shown that, ¡¥if students are studying at a distance in tertiary education are needed to be particularly careful in setting priorities and balance a certain time between work and study, family and social life.
