How did the Great Wall of China impact the Chinese, and the rest of the world? “The Long Fortress,” also known as the Great Wall of China, has a very interesting background. In building the Great Wall of China, China had to undergo many new and different changes.
Although the overall structure of the Great Wall was built over 2,500 years ago, it is still being maintained and enhanced to provide its story to the world. As Stephen McDonell states,“It took more time to build, more people to build, consumed more building material than anything else in human history and it will never be surpassed in terms of scale,”everyone knows the Great Wall of China is the most complex thing built in history and still up today. The Great Wall of China impacted China historically, culturally, and created a new kind of literature.
Before the Great Wall of China could have been built, there was a lot of thought into building it. The Great Wall of China was built to help protect the Chinese from intruders from the North. The Xiongnu, the wandering herdsmen from the plains, were coming from China’s northern border killing villagers and raiding the area for want they wanted and needed. “The First Great Emperor of China” or Qin Shihuangdi did not appreciate the visits from these invaders, and soon ordered his advisors to construct a wall. The wall had to be the length of their kingdom from east to west, he wanted it built fast and he did not care of how many people would die building it.
As more and more invasions from the Xiongnus, Emperor Qin Shihuangdi’s advisors began the work of their lifetime. The construction of the Great Wall lasted a total of 276 years from 476 BC- 221 BC. Over 3 million troops worked on this 1,800 mile long project. The work ...
