Music plays such a powerful role in society. It’s safe to say that music and society have always been intertwined as music reflects on events and emotions occur in the composers life. It is evident that music has changed believe, I believe that in pop culture it has chanced for the worse. This is sad because the vast majority of today’s youth are exposed to the crude and redundant messages written with in the catchy tunes.
I’m not accusing ever genre or even every song writer for the inappropriate music that is being released into the media, but it seems that nowadays that’s what’s topping the charts. Moreover, children are creating what is called a “Fandom” defending these explicit lines, not even knowing the real meanings. When interviewing my parents I realized that our generation is really missing out and is more or less being brain washed.
They say you can learn a lot about a person by the music they listen to, to me this was true. I now completely understand why my parents always say “that’s barely even music” or “the things they play on the radio are so different”. I know listen to some of the stuff they grew up listing to, Danna summers, Chris Cross and the Beastie boys are just some of the musician my parents introduced me to. Without further adieu I give to you. “The Impact Of Music:”

The Impact of Music: on my Parents
My parents grew up in a city not to far from here, Toronto. It turns out that my Parents and I have similar tastes in music genres, however the music written within that genre has changed drastically. Pop culture and Rap Music produced in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s compared to the 2000’s are worlds different! To start off the interview I made my parents read the articles with me, ...

...ing up. They either used a boom box or a walkman. “Walkmans are like Ipod’s but they use CD’s instead of downloaded tracks.” My mom explained. “CD’s and the radio where big back then. It was pretty much the only way to listen to music, no YouTude.” It’s very hard for me to imagine a life without YouTube. Even though YouTube only launched in 2005 it has become a tool used in my everyday life. The 1980’s was the most musically enjoyable for my parents in my dads words “that was when rap and hip hop were good”. In 1980 Michael Jackson’s rock with you was released and topped the billboard charts. My parents also jammed to Rock’N Roll by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in 1982 but the tune that really rocked the 80’s was Thriller, released in 1983! I asked my Now a days my parents music tastes are pretty much the same. My dad still likes to listen to pop, rap and reggae.
A number of other genres, throughout the decade, maintained a significant following. One genre that was slow to start was Hip-Hop, while it emerged in the 1970’s it didn’t become significant until the late 1980’s. Although Classical music began to lose impetus, it gave way to a new generation of composers through invention and theoretical development. The decade was also distinguished for its assistance to electronic music, which rose in reco...
Music can be traced back into human history to prehistoric eras. To this day archeologists uncover fragments of ancient instruments as well as tablets with carved lyrics buried alongside prominent leaders and highly influential people. This serves as a testament to the importance and power of music, as well as its influence in society. Over its many years of existence, music’s powerful invocation of feelings has allowed it to evolve and serve many purposes, one being inspiring change. American journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson once said, “Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel.” This fuel is the very things that powers the influence of Rock ‘n’ Roll on American society, that author Glenn C. Altschuler writes about in his book, “All Shook Up – How Rock ‘n’ Roll Changed America.” Between 1945 and 1965 Rock ‘n’ Roll transformed American society and culture by helping to ease racial integration and launch a sexual revolution while most importantly developing an intergenerational identity.
In conclusion this report has helped us understand the significance of Music in America. Also, the impact it has on music we listen too. Music is very much like a big chain reaction. Rock ‘N’ Roll, much like music today, stood out and was in a way rebellious. Parents now hate Rap and we love it. People in the 70’s loved Rock ‘N’ Roll and parents hated it. This shows that maybe no matter how much older people deny it, the time gap and generation gap is not too far apart. Without Rock ‘N’ Roll the World would without a doubt be changed. Any guess to that of which way would be a good one.
While the 1950s and 60s were a time of segregation in America. Most Americans, especially older individuals and groups found the beat and lyrics to Rock ‘n’ Roll sickening. It reminded them of a kind of African American type music. They didn’t like the fact that their children were listening to it because “Rock ‘n’ Roll was credited with and criticized for promoting integration and economic opportunity for blacks while bringing to ‘mainstream’ culture black styles and values.” While Americans began to feel that they were beginning to grow closer and closer to the ways of Afr...
Rock and’ roll has been credited with the birth of the so called generation gap, the difference in values and attitudes between one generation and another, especially between young people and their parents. It might have broken the last few vestiges of the traditional boundaries of the family, but it was not the instigator of the break itself. What started this shift were the decades following the end of World War II.
In the past couple of decades, music has been in trouble. It has been said to be the cause of deaths, suicides, unwanted sexual behavior, and other forms of indecency. It has taken blame for everything no one wants to be responsible for.
Music has always been a basic form of expression. From Antonin Dvorak, to Eminem, to even ancient, tribal music, it has been a medium through which individuals convey their thoughts and expressions. Today this medium is under attack. Everywhere we turn, everything we do and say is being scrutinized. We are being told what to say. We are being spoon-fed our emotions. No longer are we allowed to think freely, openly. All the censors out there are on the prowl for another piece to rip to shreds because it doesn't fit their description of what is decent and moral. What they fail to realize is that we don't make the music for them... We do it for release.
Hip Hop and Rock music are today’s people choice of music. People will find that teens and adults from the age of 20 to 34 listen to these two types of music. Not too often will you see or hear a teen listening to Blues, Opera, Reggae, or Oldies. Reason being is that they were raised up in toady’s society where really all they will here is either Hip Hop or Rock. There is a lot of argument that these two different types of music are the same old sing about money, drugs, and sex. But actually they are tot...
Most things have their beginnings in something small: a word, a breath, or idea; but not music. Music begins with a single vibration. It explodes and carries on, morphing worlds of unrelated personas. It lives rampantly in the mouths of millions of unruly and free-spirited teenagers, like a fever. The rock 'n roll trend that defiantly rose against the conformist ideology of the mid-twentieth century left remnants that commenced the start of a progressing society: a culture that redefined the rules of society and pushed social and moral limits while addressing social concerns.
Since the appearance of Rock and Roll in the 1950s, people have developed an aversion against it; not just what it represents, but also the way it sounds — fast, chaotic and “dangerous”. Rock and Roll in the 1950s represented an uncontrolled group of teenagers whose attitude became more private, secretive, and defensive and at times disrespectful. These changes in the teenager’s behavior were a part of an intense sociological shift that society suffered from after World War II. A time, in which many distinguished factors, one being Rock and Roll, collaborated to create a generation gap in American families that continues to prevail until today.
If one were to look back into the world’s history, one would find that an important and consistent element is the world of music. Music has presented itself in various forms throughout its spread and through our identification of its magical realm, people have been fortunate enough to come across a means of relation. Whether it is blues and reggae or rap and pop rock, there is music out there for everyone. Music can serve as a stabilizer for some, a relaxant to others, and to many a form of inspiration.
Music has helped provided us with ways to express human emotion and take us to another place. As time has progressed music has evolved, changing styles of music and creating a wide range of genres. Transforming for many decades, music has been able to speak the language of generations from generations. Aside from their music, dress and fashion, parental and social expectations were different in fifties teen lives as well. In this essay I will discuss the decade of a teen from the fifties as compared to modern day teens, and the message they both deliver on society.
Music is one of the few things that has remained constant through the centuries this world has existed. Not only does music provide entertainment, it also has several effects linked to it. Music allows emotions of happiness and sadness to arise. From those emotions, physical effects, negative or positive, can occur. Music has a profound effect on the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical aspects of a person.
Throughout my life, music has always been a major influence. It has the power to change my mood when I'm feeling down, but the thing I find most intriguing about music is that it doesn't always end up improving your mood: like all forms of art, it imitates life, which is not always portrayed in a positive light. The musicians that I admire most have the versatility to induce several different emotional responses in the same piece. This quality is present in most of the wide variety of music I listen to, from Russian composer Dmiti Shostakovich, to Chicago jazz band Tortoise, to California pop/rock sextet Mr. Bungle.
Music has been known throughout time. It can help us through everything. There are so many solutions with music to help a person go through so many situations. Music can affect many people in many different ways. Without music some people would be lost and would have no motivation. Music can provide inspiration and insight through education. Music has influence on suicides, killings and shootings, and provocative actions. It can also influence good morals, respect, allowing differences, health, and much more. Music can come in many forms and categories and music is very good for the world.
