"Destination casino" is a term used to refer to the integrated resort casinos that characterize the luxurious integrated resort casinos of Las Vegas. Increased tourism, conventions and trade shows are associated with these enterprises ("What is"). Las Vegas hosts 22,000 meetings and conventions and has been a leading trade show destination of 16 consecutive years ("What is"). This industry is responsible for 46,000 local jobs and is estimated to provide the local economy with $4.5 billion each year ("What is"). The same positive economic impact that is enjoyed by Las Vegas could be reaped by the State of Florida if the legislature passes the laws required to establish destination resort casinos in South Florida.
A recent poll, which was funded by the Las Vegas Sands casino conglomerate, indicated that the majority of Florida residents polled favored the establishment of destination casino resorts in South Florida (Deslatte). According to Dave Sackett of the Tarrance Group, which is the organization that conducted the poll, 63 per cent of likely Florida voters supported the initiative (Beaton). This poll also determined that 67 per cent of those polled indicated that they would be more likely to favor destination construction if they were certain that this initiative would "'create tens of thousands of new, good-paying jobs and bolster economic development through tourism'" (Deslatte). While support for destination casinos was stronger in South Florida, 54 per cent of voters in Northwest Florida favored it as well (Beaton).

It is, therefore, difficult to perceive how this development could be viewed as anything less than a beneficial development for all concerned. The Walt Disney Corporation fears that expansion of Florida's gambling industry will negatively impact Disney's family-friendly orientation; however, it is arguable that the Broadway caliber shows and the other attractive amenities that are typically part of destination resort casinos will prove to be features that attract, rather than alienate, families. It is anticipated that in the upcoming 2014 session of the Florida Legislature, gambling interests will once again pursue this goal (Rohrer). By voting yes in regards to this legislation, the Florida legislature can bring the benefits of destination resort casinos to the state's economy.
The second threat is many states are legalizing or planning to legalize commercial casino gambling. Unlike Native American casinos commercial casinos turn over a large share of their profit to the cities and states in taxes.
Governor Jeb Bush's One Florida Initiative has come into action and there have been many opposing opinions towards this plan since The Board of Regents approved it. Some might say the plan has split Florida in two. Many Florida citizens who support One Florida argue towards opposing positions to give the plan a chance. These supporters believe this state needs a change because of the numerous problems within our school system. Opposing sides argue that they might consider part of, which is the plan that grants schools money towards scholarships and mentoring but their position is that affirmative action is not a problem. Supporter of One Florida Initiative believe that the plan could not have come about any later than it did because we needed some action done fast. While opposers believe that this plan was voted on too fast and the governor didn't give citizens enough information or time to do anything about it.
Gambling... Who does not like to gamble? People play lotteries, bet on sport games or try their luck on slot machines with a thought to win some amount of money. In fact, this excitement for gambling can be seen even from early ages; for example, ancient Egyptians used to play dice in 2000 BC or the first casinos opened their doors to customers during the Greeco-Roman period ( Whittaker and Cushman 1 ). Nowadays casino industry is a large business in the United States that brings high revenues and offers various entertainment that attracts people from different areas. So just recently residents and visitors of Worcester, Wicomico and surrounding counties got a great opportunity to try themselves in a new Ocean Downs casino that came into operation couple months ago. Ocean Downs casino is an excellent benefit to the community that helps to improve the economic and social status of the county and also serves as a great entertainment for the adult population.
Gambling can have adverse effects on the social welfare of many individuals and families. Gambling can increase the number of individuals and families dealing with gambling addiction and exploit individuals and families who are economically disadvantaged. Under such circumstances, not all forms of gambling should be legalized. This is clear evidence that gambling revenue allocated for Texas schools is not worth the negative effects associated with gambling. Education is a valuable source of growth for all citizens in a community, no one in society can truly grow if one part of society is left
On the other hand, you have those who feel that gambling or slots, whether at racetracks or otherwise, would bring an unwelcome criminal element to Maryland and have a detrimental effect on our residents-specifically the State’s younger residents. They basically feel that if the State legislature were to pass this piece of legislation through, that they would be promoting widespread moral decay by turning the residents of Maryland into compulsive, degenerate gamblers.

My first source of reference is an article that I read in the Los Angeles Times. The article is titled, “Welfare Abuse Review Ordered.” This article went on to describe a current issue in California that affects the taxpayers. For at least eight years now, welfare benefits have been withdrawn from casino ATM machines. It is the unstated warrant in this article that being allowed to cash benefits from casino ATM’s will result in welfare recipients gambling with that money. At this time Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has issued an executive order requiring welfare recipients to promise to use cash benefits as intended for basic subsistence needs only. Tourism has experienced continued growth over the years and diversification and has become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. For countries like Australia, it has become one of the major contributing sectors in the economy generating large proportions of the national income and at the same time increase employment opportunities. The future is still bright for the industry in the country with possible future growth in expansion and diversification. When most people think of Atlantic City, the first thing that comes to mind is the casino attractions that are available. With the city’s constant shuffle and excitement, gamblers from all over go there dreaming of a big win. Many people consider Atlantic City to be the “Las Vegas of the East Coast”. There are over 12 casinos, with one building as magnificent as the next. At any given second of the day, these hopefuls may have their lives changed in an instant with just one win. These casino hotels gain most of their income from gamblers. Casinos employ almost 49,000 people every year. This number should actually jump when the Marina District opens. Although Atlantic City prospers as a gambler’s paradise, many would love to show others just how much more Atlantic City really has to offer its tourists. The Atlantic City Convention Center, built in 1929, was renovated with $72 million in 1997. With the world’s largest pipe organ, everyone from the Beatles to Pavarotti has played there. It was designated a historic landmark in 1987. Conventions, trade shows, meetings, and public events of the greater Atlantic City area all take place here. When the renovation is finally completed, it will seat up to 12,000 people for special events.

Tourism has made Puerto Rico an island paradise, but no one talks about the high unemployment rates, crime, and Americanization of Puerto Rican culture. Many do not see this a problematic because tourism is highly profitable, but many of the locals do not see those profits. There is not much being done in combating the issues that have risen with the implementation of tourism as the main industry of Puerto Rico. Many people do not think of these things when thinking about the island because it is marketed as a place to forget troubles, not a place to take on the troubles of Puerto Rico. There has to be more awareness, and priority placed on finding solutions to these issues if Puerto Rico wants to maintain a successful tourist industry.
