With the theme of “Connecting minds, creating future” Dubai successfully won the EXPO 2020 bid against the other candidate cities: Sao Paulo, Brazil, Izmir, Turkey and Yekaterinburg, Russia.
The World Expo is being held for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa & South Asia region, which definitely brings joy and happiness to all of us. Not only is the Expo the third largest global event after the Olympic games and the FIFA World Cup but also does it act as an economical catalyst, which will create economical just like financial benefits during the run up of the event and even after.

The diagram above shows economic effects the World Expo’s had on the past host cities and the possible effects for Dubai, UAE.
At least 25 million tourists are expected to visit the 438-hectare large Expo site, which will be located near the Dubai Word Central. The costs are said to be $ 8.1 billion, with a total spending of $18 billion and a huge number of new jobs being created.
Compared to the last Expo in Shanghai, China which was bigger and had more visitors, it does not seem like a extraordinary and more ambitious event, however it will surely exceed the plans of Milan, Italy as their effects are of much lower quality than Dubai’s are estimated to be,

A recently conducted survey by the research company YouGov asked 1000 residents across the UAE.
The participants were asked what they believe will happen when Dubai wins the Expo 2020 bid..

As you can see in the diagram, 91% of the contestants stood behind their country and believed Dubai will win the bid. 81% of them said they will stay in the emirate, where as 60% are more likely to invest in the UAE.

Dubai has always been known for its tourism sector. And now that the Expo is going to be occurring here, the expectations for an even higher number of visitors are high. Helal Almarri, Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing believes the future planned innovations will attract a minimum of 25 million and a maximum of 100 million visitors between October 2020 and April 2021, of which 70 per cent from outside the UAE. Additional luxury resorts, cultural museums and other attractions of entertainment are scheduled to be built to ensure visitors have all doors open for discovery in all parts of the country including Abu Dhabi.
