Information technology is the application of computers and telecommunication equipment to store, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data. This includes distributing and manufacturing information. This use of technology can be applied in the workforce, the educational system, and social life. Centuries ago, people did not have the means of technology that we have now. Alexander Graham Bell received the patent for his invention of the telephone in 1876. The first fully functioning computer was developed from 1936- 1938 by Konrad Zuse in his parent’s living room. The Internet has been developing since the 1950’s. Things are still being added to the Internet, the databases are surging with information. We live in a world where we are surrounded by different types of technology. Phones are always being updated, practically on a daily basis. Computers are becoming more and more advanced. We can Skype and Snapchat and Instant Message people that live long ways away from us. Such things have become a part of our everyday lives. We are carriers and receivers of information. Today’s society is much more advanced that our parent’s had. The next generation will be even more technologically advanced. Maybe, there will be a way to read minds in the future. This way of life is constantly changing. Information technology is any device that is used to communicate and store data. Computers are prime examples of information technology. They can communicate and store and retrieve data. Phones are another example. We can call and text message on mobile devices. Messages are sent wirelessly. We can also have conversations through videos. Information technology has some ethical problems. Hackers and identity thieves are in today’s society. Information is constantly being shared on the Internet. Websites I sometimes visit like Wikipedia, are being edited by people around the world. They can edit a website from their own homes. I can also watch television and movies through the Internet. I like to use search engines such as Yahoo and Google. Those are information databases. I look up videos on YouTube. Again, people all over the world are sharing videos on this site. On You Tube, you can also make comments about the videos you watch. Overall, in the present and in the future I will be using a lot of information technology. I will be using them professionally, educationally, and socially. As the world advances, we will all have to do the same.
