Introduction Idlewild & Soakzone was voted the Best Children’s park in America by Amusement Today, (About Idlewild, n.d.). Idlewild is active on social media with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. According to Time, Millennials are more trusting of businesses that are active on social media, “An annual report compiled by global public relations firm Edelman found just, 38 percent of consumers — with millennials being the largest part of this group — trust government officials, down from an already modest 52 percent just two years ago. Forty-three percent trust CEOs, down from 50 percent. While that is a majority of the Millennial population, they have different reasons for using the social media platform. According to the American Press Institute, “ Seven in 10 click on and regularly read or watch news stories or headlines posted by other people. They also participate in news in ways that are not entirely possible in more traditional platforms. Six in 10, for instance, say they regularly “like” a posted news story, headline, or link. Nearly half, 42 percent, say they regularly post or share news content to Facebook themselves, and 34 percent say they regularly comment on news stories, headlines, or links,” (How Millennials use and control social media, 2015). It’s no secret that internet and social media has become a major part of our society. In the last 14 years the number of internet users has increased by a whopping 566% and 2,495,518,376 people in this world have access to the internet. 70% of them use the internet on a daily basis. On average that 70% will spend 3.2 hours daily on social media, such as Instagram, Tumblr, Google+ and YouTube.
Social Media began affecting our communication and relationships as early as 1969 when the first internet service provider become available to U.S. universities. In 2002, Friendster, the first social media website available to the U.S. was created and gained over 3 million members in just over 3 months. One year later, MySpace launched. In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg, a 24-year-old Harvard student, created Facebook, an online social networking service. This service was originally a way for students to interact. Today it is the world’s largest social networking service and allows over a billion users to connect though posting photos, sharing links, and comments which all appear on a “News Feed” that blasts out this information to all your virtual friends. For the current generation, this new way of communication is facilitating the act of never losing contact with anyone they have ever met. It also allows anyone on this platform to create new relationships with people they are interested in connecting with via internet.

As social techonoogy advances, it is up to us as as ociety to safegaurd our youth through education on the subject of safe, healthy usage. While a total elimination of the technology is more damaging than helpful, it is wholly more productive simply to guide our children in the correct way, and impart on them a healthy perspective on social mass media. The younger generation learn and adapt more easily with the fast-paced innovation of technologies, so that they can be more active when getting involved with virtual society created by people who are using the social media applications, such as Facebook, Forums, MSN, etc. As to the middle age individuals, even though some of they are unkindly to some social media tools like Facebook, due to privacy concerns. They are still using other kinds of social media applications to some degree, and take keen interest in using them, as the applications are more convenience then the traditional ways of exchanging information, like e-mails and short text messages.
