The United States was once at the top of its game when it came to the education, the United States, provided for the people and that is what brought many people to the United States to achieve what is now called “The American Dream.” But little by little that has changed. The countries that were once below us in mass education have seemed to surpass us and have somehow taken a huge leap forward while the United States stays behind, causing the American Dream to slowly slip away. Now the American Dream is exactly what it sounds like; just a dream. In the mid-1800s, almost all the American states provided with a free elementary education to the great majority of white children. First question was what does the American Dream mean to you? Second Question how do you feel about the educational system in the United States today and third question do you believe there is an inequality in the educational the children receive? If so, why. Answers for question one showed that 100% of the people asked linked education with the American Dream as one. They believe it is because of the education that the American Dream even exists. Answers for question two show that 75% of the people asked are dissatisfied with the education their children are receiving. While the other 25% are satisfied with the education their children are receiving. For my third question 75% of the people asked believe that there is an inequality because the children with parents with a higher income receive a better education while the children with parents with a lower income received what they like to call “second hand education” (Carranza). While the other 25% believe there is not an inequality because you work for what you want, and if the parents want their children to get a better education they need to work hard for it. This survey shows two very different point of views and the only thing in common between the two groups is that they both believe that education is the key to achieving the American
