The role of a civil engineer is to identify a problem, analyze its requirements and conditions, and then design a solution to the problem. Civil engineers are responsible for maintaining and operating infrastructure systems of a society such as bridges, hospitals, airports, dams etc. Civil engineers are also in charge of ensuring protocols such as workers health and safety are followed in the workplace which they are in charge of, this is done by devising methods in which tasks will be carried out which ensure that these safety and ethics codes will be followed. Impacts of Bridges on society and its . Environment Bridges have major impacts on both the culture of a community and its accessibility. When a bridge is constructed in an area it allows for more direct transport in and out of the community, increasing economic growth in the area. However, this bridge will also make the area far more desirable as it becomes easier to get to major centers such as hospitals or CBD’s from the town, which will cause more people to want to move into the community. This increase of foreign people to the community may result in a loss of original culture as they bring new things into the society, this can be viewed as a positive or negative phenomenon. In regards to the environment, bridges can affect aquatic life catastrophically, as they may use some chemicals for maintenance that are innately carcinogenic, which can wreak havoc on the aquatic environment as it contaminates the surrounding environment. However, the structure is required at some point, as a community can only reach a certain point in development without connecting to a major trade area or business district.
