Thrilling, superb and well thought out; The Hunger Games captures your imagination and never leaves you feeling bored. The greatest achievement for The Hunger Games is successfully adapting a best-selling novel into a top selling film. The novel has been tailored into something intelligent, powerful and immersive. Within about ninety seconds into the movie we gather what Panem is, a futuristic city. We hear two men discussing something called The Hunger Games and then with a high-pitched scream, it cuts to District 12. This is how the main characters Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) city are divided into Districts; they were unfortunately born into the less-fortunate District 12. It opens your eyes to something so much bigger and you don’t even realise until you have left the cinema. The hunger games isn’t your typical action/ thriller film, it’s much more than that. In my opinion it is one of the best films I have seen in a very long time. The acting is superb, the atmosphere throughout the film is so tense it makes you want to keep your eyes on the screen at all times. To have taken a best-selling novel and adapted it into a film without ruining it, is a challenge but director Gary Ross pulled it off, so I applaud him and the whole cast and crew for making The Hunger Games a film that you are happy to watch over and over again without complaining.
