The book that I read was called The Homecoming. This book was mainly about a family that was deserted by their mentally arranged mother and had to fend for themselves in this cold harsh world. They also had to learn about things that they should have learned about when they were in their adult years, but they helped each other during this time, and worked together to beat the odds.

I read the book Before We Were Free by Julia Alvarez. Anita, an eleven year old girl, is suddenly sent into a very scary and unknown world, right in her own home. Her cousins are running away to the United states, but to get away from what? Her parents are keeping secrets and she tries to get information from her sister, but finds out very little. Anita finds herself struggling when she is forced to grow up very quickly and try not to act as scared as she feels at times.
Susie’s mother opened the door to let Molly, Susie’s babysitter, inside. Ten-month old Susie seemed happy to see Molly. Susie then observed her mother put her jacket on and Susie’s face turned from smiling to sad as she realized that her mother was going out. Molly had sat for Susie many times in the past month, and Susie had never reacted like this before. When Susie’s mother returned home, the sitter told her that Susie had cried until she knew that her mother had left and then they had a nice time playing with toys until she heard her mother’s key in the door. Then Susie began crying once again.
The 1986 film “Sixteen Candles” tells a timeless tale of growing up in suburban America. The film’s star, Sam, played by Molly Ringwald, wakes up with big expectations on her sweet sixteenth birthday only to be completely disappointed. Not only does she find that she looks exactly the same as when she was fifteen, but her family is so preoccupied with her older sister’s wedding that they forget her birthday altogether.
Friday night lights shined on the Vandeblit Catholic High School’s stadium field as hundreds of students and fans gathered to support their fighting terriers at the 2002 homecoming game. After two quarters of some great football action, it was finally time to announce the 2002 homecoming king and queen. As football player Andre Melancon stood on the sideline he anxiously awaited the results. Surprisingly his name was announced as homecoming king. Leaving the sideline he maneuvered to center field to except his crown, queen, and title with pride. Little did the fans know this would not be the greatest accomplishment of Andre’s life. Andre stood there with pride and excitement, but also a desire to be a part of the priesthood.

Attempting to establish why, unlike both their children and parent, postwar Americans citizens looked to marriage along parenthood involving great enthusiasm and promise. Postwar American citizens felt the need to become liberated from past mishaps to be more secure in the following years. Within the household, potentially threating social entities of the new age could be tamed, where they could add to the security and fulfillment of life that men and women wanted to obtain. However, the satisfying emphases of 1950’s great minds and physiologists suggested personal and private resolutions to social issues. The modern family was the place in which that alteration was expected to occur. The household was the atmosphere in which families could feel comfortable with themselves. Giving that, domestic restraint and its calming corollary weakened the potential for political involvement and protected the alarming effects of anticommunism and the cold-war consent.
Abraham Maslow is known as the father of the humanistic psychology; an approach that look at people from a more optimistic perspective than the behavioral and psychoanalytical approach do. For instance, Maslow held that neurotics and person with abnormal behaviors are not the best representation of the humanity; by the contrary, are those who live a normal life and become self-actualize. Abraham Maslow’s theory states that every single human being have the innate potential to become an achiever driven by inborn needs. His researches were not made on animals, or mental illness people’s case studies, because his ideology; if not, in successful human being such as Franklin D. Roosevelt to found what make does people been high achievers. By successful human being Maslow means rich, full and satisfied human being. The film The Pursuit of Happyness is a case study about Christ Gardner a man whose life may be used as a perfect portray of the Maslow’s Theory.
The Shining is about a white middle class dysfunctional family that suffers from natural and supernatural stresses in an isolated Rocky mountain hotel. .The father, a former teacher turned writer, is portrayed as a habitual drinker, wife- and child-abuser, with a kind of evil streak The mother is shown as a battered woman. The film suggests that due to the abuse at the hands of his father and the passivity of his mother, the child of this family developed psychological problems. He had imaginary friends and began to see frightening images.
Racism, bigotry, hatred, and violence is this the direction our country is leaning towards? The fact that any of this still exist in our society is unreal, but in the film documentary by Michael Moore, Bowling for Columbine, proves just how real each and every one of these issue are. American’s seem to identify with racism, bigotry, hatred, and violence, and it has been ingrained in us as small children that if we don’t do something that there are going to be consequences so as we get older we lash out. As a result, we have become this violent society with so much hatred and anger.

I spent a lot of time considering what movie I would watch to write this essay. I listed off the movies that I would like to watch again, and then I decided on The Notebook. I didn’t really think I could write about adolescence or children, so I thought that, maybe, I could write about the elderly. The love story that The Notebook tells is truly amazing. I love watching this movie, although I cry every time I watch it. The Notebook is about an elderly man that tells the story of his life with the one he loves the most, his wife. He is telling the story to his wife, who has Alzheimer’s Disease, which is a degenerative disease that affects a person’s memory. She has no recollection of him or their life together, or even her own children. She wrote the story of their love herself, so that when he read the story to her, she would come back to him. There are three things that I would like to discuss about this movie. First, I would like to discuss their stage of life and the theory that I believe describes their stage of life the best. Second, I would like to discuss Alzheimer’s DIsease and its affect on the main character who has it and her family. Third, I would like to discuss how at the end of the movie, they died together. I know it is a movie, but I do know that it is known that elderly people who have been together for a long time, usually die not to far apart from one another.
