“GameStop traces its roots to Babbage’s a small software retailer that started in Dallas, Texas in 1984. The movement that made Babbage’s into GameStop started in 1994 with a series of mergers between Babbage’s and several other software retailers. When Babbage has first merged with software Etc. in 1994, the combined company was named NeoStar Retail, but the two halves continued to operate as if they were separate entities.” (Gamestop Corp, 2013) At the time when the company first started out, they acquired just 800 stores for now. “The last day of the meeting, the head of Barnes and Noble team up with other corporate people to see what items could be put in the store around the time of the biggest holiday of the year (which was Christmas) to keep the company stable and prevent it from shutting down. The head of the company decided that the company name “NeoStar” (Gobel, The Questia , 2013)seems like it does not fit what the company is about and decided that the company should attach themselves to the company “Babbage’s/Software Etc.” “Around the year 2004, the employees of the combining companies did not think that they would get any perquisites for being a worker there, but thanks to Riggio, the employees were able to receive the employee discounts.” (Gobel, 2013)

This formal report will show the history of Staples and Circuit City. Why did Staples is still in business as of today and why is Circuit City out of business? What were the business model or strategy used by Staples, and the strategy used by Circuit City? This report will analyze the history, business strategy, and financial history of the companies. The case also highlights the importance of sound strategic business decisions, target marketing, and customer input. Moreover, the case points to the need for a retailer in such a competitive marketplace, with both brick and online competitors, to find its competitive advantage and adhere to it.
A merger is a partial or total combination of two separate business firms and forming of a new one. There are predominantly two kinds of mergers: partial and complete. Partial merger usually involves the combination of joint ventures and inter-corporate stock purchases. Complete mergers are results in blending of identities and the creation of a single succeeding firm. (Hicks, 2012, p 491). Mergers in the healthcare sector, particularly horizontal hospital mergers wherein two or more hospitals merge into a single corporation, are increasing both in frequency and importance. (Gaughan, 2002). The eighties prompted change as well as the opening of Best Buy’s first superstore. During 1983, a new corporate name was approved and the Sound of Music Company became known as Best Buy Co., Inc. With mounting consumer support Best Buy continued its road to expansion by opening an additional five stores. In 1985, the newly named company was being publicly traded under the symbol BBY. The late eighties brought forth additional change for the continuously growing company. Best Buy adopted a new concept in retail merchandising with the opening of massive superstores. The new concept shifted the placing of all inventory on the sales floor and hiring a specialized staff of non-commissioned service representatives (FAQ). Such adaptations have fueled the company into progression and continued to promote the company’s corporate vision of “Making life fun and easy”(Fact Sheet).

It is ranked the second largest discount retailer in the United States and ranked thirty- sixth on the Fortune 500 as of 2013. The Target Corporation has been serving this nation with the best price possible goods since their expansion from “Dayton” and is continuously winning the hearts of consumers with their dedication and service. Second, the firm can totally combine the bank’s technology and the information systems which will allow the merged firm to operate as a single entity and to become fully operational. The management should implement the merger with care and prudence, aiming for minimal disruption for the customers and should communicate extensively to ensure all its stakeholders are kept fully informed as they make changes.
The soft factors can make or break a successful change process, since new structures and strategies are difficult to build upon inappropriate cultures and values. These problems often come up in the dissatisfying results of spectacular mega-mergers. To withstand the test of time and develop such a stronghold on the market, Publix has excelled in its global business community or macroenvironment, as well as its market environment or microenvironment.
When two companies decide to combine forces and become one bigger, richer mega company, it is called merging. This process forms a new company, combining the money and ideas of what used to be two different entities into one. This, however, is not the only thing that results from merging two different companies, and since we will be discussing the merging of two companies in the pharmaceutical industry, the impact will be incredible. Of course, the merging of two companies will not only have positive impacts but it will have many negative side effects as well. Furthermore, depending on the size of the merging companies and the goals of the people leading these companies there will always be contradictions according to the long-term goals or short-term goals depending on what both parties’ interests are. Our company, Verduga Inc. is contemplating to merge with Coronado-Salinas Inc., so before we rush into such a merger we must contemplate the positive and negative aspects of such a move. When it comes to mergers there are always many possible positive and negative impacts due to the effects of merging; these effects more widely impact the fields on research and development, on employment and management, stocks and shareholders, monopolization, and ingenuity.
