Earlier in the history of Food and Nutrition, people followed the saying, “Eat to live.” With the change in times, trends, and food nutrition, the mentioned saying has evidently flipped to “Live to Eat”. Before, the balance between the four essential portions of food were steady: 30% vegetables(2 ½ cups), 20% fruits(2 cups), 25% healthy proteins(5 ½ cups), 25% grains(6 ounces), and 3 cups of dairy(Grasa and Christine). Nowadays, the plate has lopsided in one direction, changing sides from one to the other, giving importance to the preference that is comfortable to an individual at a time or period. Hence, the plate is never stable. There is more percentage in an individual’s own likable portion resulting in a lower percentage in the other portions. This produces an overall unhealthy lifestyle or habit for people today. According to the nutritional statistics of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition, “Typical American diets exceed the categories: calories from solid fats and added sugars; refined grains, sodium; and saturated fat. More people should adapt to having a nutritional life due to the nutrition benefits of: the prevention of diseases, boosting of energy levels, and improving our lives. Many diseases can be prevented if people change their lifestyles towards nutrition. Protein-energy mal-nutrition, obesity, and diabetes are few to name from the many diseases. Protein-energy malnutrition, according to the World Health Organization, is “the cellular imbalance be... ... middle of paper ... ... the weeks of rigorous exercise, then the work put into losing the weight may backfire with the increase of weight again. The nutrition factor in our lives gives us motivation to live our lives with healthy choices and we should. The nutrition is here to help us live better lives like teachers are there to help children gain knowledge in schools. Nutrition has many benefits that can motivate, help, and lead lives onto the healthier path. Some benefits are: the prevention of diseases, an energy-booster, and to improve lives overall. Nutrition has been here for ages. Some abuse it and some take it to their own advantage. Nutrition is an option and a resource that can be to your benefit if you want it to be. An unhealthy lifestyle is also an option that can give you eating pleasures, but don’t count on it being “healthy” for you. So, what option are you choosing?
