One of the greatest social problems seen in our county today is poverty. There are many different reasons for why this is a problem in today’s society. Rather then focusing on why this is a problem and point fingers for why this has happened over the years to society the main goal should be to focus on how to help these people and how to stop the next generation from having to suffer from this social problem. There are many ways to help with this problem one of the most important things is to help those in need now, next is to educate the next generation in how to climb out of poverty, and finally is for the next generation to change the why the government supply’s the different types of aid to those in need. Poverty is something that can be fixed its just going to take a matter of time. The way we are going to do this is by teaching society to not except poverty as a option and that they can be successful it just takes a little bit of effort.
One of the greatest needs in todays time is helping those in need now for many this is not easy mainly because for many they are embarrassed to actually ask for help even though they know they need it. The local school of Dawson Springs has a program called FRYSC, which stands for Family Resource and Youth Services Centers. The Kentucky cabinet was the created this service for all schools. According to the Kentucky Cabinet it says, “The primary goal of these centers is to remove nonacademic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success.” According to the coordinator of this program it actually does more for the city of Dawson. It is possible for this reform to take place but its not something that will change easily because many people are set in their ways from the past. However if society learns to actually seek out programs that are local like FRYSC at dawson springs and actually ask for help before it is to late maybe they can recover and learn from their financial problems. Next I think if we start educating our children now and let them know that poverty is not something that they have to live with and that with a education they can climb out of poverty and be successful. Finally the government needs to change how they are approving aid for the people who are abusing it, and start helping the ones who actually are in need of aid. By doing this we can truly help those in poverty have a better and brighter future.
Poverty is a complex and growing problem in the United States. As of right now there is no solution. There are proposals and acts, such as Obama Care, that were enacted in an attempt to help people in poverty, and there are so many organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity and The Hunger Project, that try to aid people when they start to lack the necessities, like food and shelter. College students are graduating college with a large amount of student loans and no way of paying them off, people are being evicted from their homes, and employees are being laid off. The unemployment rate in the United States in 2015 was five percent, that’s about fifteen million people. Insular poverty, elucidated by Professor John Kenneth Galbraith in his 1969 essay, The Position of Poverty, refers to the collages of people who are poor because the designation of their lives trap them on ‘social islands’ where nearly everyone is living in these standards. (Galbraith 404) Poverty has flagrantly become a ‘back of the mind’ subject in America. The underlying question remains; is American society responsible for the uprise of insular poverty? Despite the "efforts" America puts off to relieve the world of insular poverty, American society is indefinitely responsible for its popularity due to the absence of will for the impoverished to climb out of the hole of poverty, the absence of opportunities given to poverty minority, the absence of compassion for the povertized.
The American dream is impossible for the more impoverished because over the years poverty rates have been increasing. The richest country in the world still has more than 12% of its total population, and almost 20% of all children under the age of 18, unable to meet, let alone be guaranteed coverage of basic needs. With that said the nation has fallen apart in the last 25 years. America has faced economic insecurity and it is up to us to change it. Furthermore, the three main issues why poverty in America continues are the high cost of living, a great percentage of people living (below the poverty line) and the economic inequality that the impoverished face.
Poverty is a prevalent issue that many Americans face and it has been a serious problem over centuries. Every year there are people at risk of hunger. Combating poverty is not an easy task; there are many underlying issues that need to be addressed. Fortunately there are policies in place to assist with in decreasing the negative effects of poverty; however, some of the policies may cause people to become more dependent on government assistance. As a result it may cause a rise in taxes to support these policies and programs. Poverty is very common and widespread around the world. Unanswered questions that arise in regards to poverty are what can be done to resolve it, what are the causes of poverty, and is it possible to eliminate poverty entirely. Based on research and my personal experiences, government aid and housing are some resolutions to decrease poverty.
Surviving in a world where money matters is not easy at all. Try living on less than a dollar and fifty cents a day. Go into a store and look for food enough for three meals that has enough nutrients for a balance diet all under a budget of $1.50. Fresh fruit and vegetables along with meat are out of the question, then what are the options? There really are none except a few canned and dried goods. There are people who live on this on a daily basis. The amount of people who live in poverty are over 1.4 billion and increasing daily. Society has not focused enough on social justice for those in poverty. “The working poor harvest sweet potatoes in time for Thanksgiving. They cut trees in time for Christmas. The fruit of their labor are in our lives every day, yet we rarely see them. Even when we encounter them face-to-face stocking shelves in Wal-Mart or checking us out at the supermarket, we do not see them as whole people, and we surely do not see them as poor. They are hidden in plain sight” (Edwards). People work minimum wage and receive barely enough assistance from the government to help support them. These people work and continue to work to make enough to survive one day at a time. The opportunities for those of low class compared to those in middle or higher levels of class do not match. These classes all receive different benefits, but more importantly those in poverty impact society as a whole.

Though extremely grateful for all of the privilege in my life, it was difficult to realize my fortune until working with the teens at RYP who often do not have two parents, have limited adult influences, and live below the poverty line, making education an afterthought. From the perspective of a tutor and mentor, the educational support that the teens require is unquestionable, just like the injustices they face daily. Through service, not only does one gain perspective into the needs of the local community, but also insight into systemic issues of racism, poverty, crime, education and more. By participating in service and trying to counteract the sources of need for others, one will undoubtedly change their perspective of the framework question, knowing that the very least one should help others.
Everyone knows what the word poverty means. It means poor, unable to buy the necessities to survive in today's world. We do not realize how easy it is for a person to fall into poverty: A lost job, a sudden illness, a death in the family or the endless cycle of being born into poverty and not knowing how to overcome it. There are so many children in poverty and a family's structure can effect the outcome. Most of the people who are at the poverty level need some type of help to overcome the obstacles. There are mane issues that deal with poverty and many things that can be done to stop it.

When one hears poverty they think of having no money or a house and being on the streets like a homeless person. That is in fact true but, poverty is more than that it is more widespread across income levels. Not just those at the absolute bottom of income earned and wages. 12% of Americans are unable to meet their basic needs 20% being 18 years or younger (mit.edu). Poverty does not just affect people on the individual level it also can have effects on communities as a whole.
This nation has a problem: more of its citizens rely on the federal government for help than to support themselves with a full time job. Poverty has many negative effects on the people who suffer from it and on the economy. Everyone needs to be made aware of poverty and the many negative effects it has on people. There are things that could be done to help reduce the amount of people that are in poverty. Reducing poverty would decrease health risks, strengthen the middle class, and help the democracy.
Poverty is an issue which the world faces everyday. It is a constant struggle that cannot be ignored anymore. As you can see defeating poverty would take great efforts and contributions from all. We must better educate the youth and have education available for everyone all over the world. We also need to ensure that everyone has a job and that they are properly skilled for the job. Poverty is prevalent throughout the world around us. We watch television and see famous people begging us to sponsor a child for only ten dollars a month. We think in our own minds that ten dollars is only pocket change, but to those children and their families, that ten dollars is a large portion of their annual income. We see images of starving children in far away countries, and our hearts go out to them. But we really do not know the implications of poverty, why it exists, or even what we can do to help combat this giant problem in our world.
Has anyone ever considered thinking about what the world is really going through? How many people don’t have the necessities in order to survive? If so, what are these people going through? Poverty is the state of one who lacks a standard or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. Sometimes events occur that changes a person’s perspective on life. Poverty is one that can have a huge effect on not only one person, but also the people around him/her. Over half of the world is going through this tragedy and we, being the ones who created it, have the responsibility to end it.
