The Great Gatsby... does the title really make sense? To some people, yes. It is completely true. To other people, no. Gatsby wasn't great at all. To me, however; yes he was great even if some of the things he did to become great aren't so....great. To describe the reasons Gatsby was great I would say for one, the façade he puts up is "great". He was a local celebrity. His wealth, his home, the parties he threw, even his personality was perfect. He always attained his goals and dreams. Last but most certainly not least, his motives. The reason behind the things he did – love. It was all for love. A lot of people end up just settling and stop having dreams for themselves. Gatsby however continued to dream and set goals and he even reached those goals. Even if his means of attaining his goals weren't that great. Nevertheless, he went after his dreams. Ever since he was a child, his dreams were wealth and luxury and he succeeded. He also had a dream of winning back Daisy, which he did for a little while. Being not only a dreamer, but someone who accomplishes their dreams is enough to call someone great. So now we think, why would Gatsby put on a façade and attain his goals through criminal activities? Why was he so great for doing all of that? The answer is love. Gatsby's love for Daisy was the motive behind all of his not so "great" actions. Even though he didn't do the best things to get the status that he achieved, he did it all for Daisy. And because of that, he can be considered loyal and sincere. His actions may not have always been good, but behind those actions was a man who kind and very loving.
