The sky was peppered with silver stars; the moon embodied a lantern which had been ornamented upon the ebony. On the other hand, hungry stomachs started diffusing into the eatery, occupying seats and sighing out of relief. The orchestral clatter of utensils against ceramic plates echoed through the packed and rustic Chicago bistro.
An elderly gentleman, his hair salt and pepper, was victim of experience that had sucked youth from his hair but not his soul. The child-like glint in his chestnut eyes seemed ever-lasting. The golden ager was attired in a crisp suit, suede leather shoes encased his tapping feet. A gold analogue watch encircled his hand which was constantly being checked. The sepia illumination that captivated the restaurant emphasized the pen in his pocket and the chimes that danced; composing a harmonious melody of various pitches. In entered a woman relishing her late thirties, wrapped in a mid- charcoal dress; with delicate legs that bore chevron wedges, nails that were color-blocked with berry and gold. Like batteries are put into a dead toy, the man suddenly straightened and his aura emitted beams of light. She panted, then graced the dapper gentleman with an up-lifting smile. As she sat

He rested his gleeful face on his hands, relishing the sound of her sweet voice- which was accompanied with vivacious gestures. Similarly, her eyes shared fireworks the boy had… Frequently, vacuous bursts of laughter rose to the atmosphere, abrading any dullness. Their facial expressions traversed a positive spectrum. A moment later, the verve defused, and so did their intertwined hands: the mouth-watering food had been placed on the table. Sans any awkward silence, the couple dug in to their food; commenting on it in tandem. Mutual respect was abundant as one of the things he did was clean her stained lips with a napkin, when food decorated
The meal, and more specifically the concept of the family meal, has traditional connotations of comfort and togetherness. As shown in three of Faulkner’s short stories in “The Country”, disruptions in the life of the family are often reinforced in the plot of the story by disruptions in the meal.
It gave the idea, and a clear understanding of what its discussing. It led me to imagine a dilapidated room, with elderly people eating, and using mismatched copper utensils. Their body physically there, but easily seen in their eyes , their minds are somewhere far away. I could see and feel the pearls when I read the line, “ Full of beads and receipts.” I could see them eating the beans, and imagine their back room filled with objects containing their memories. “ This old yellow pair,” and Rememberings with twinklings and tinges,” inspired the imagery of an old couple sitting together and reminiscing about their
Thomas stared down at his stomach. It roared as loud as a lion, after three days of unsuccessful hunting. He wasn’t sure if it was due to the smell of eggs and bacon drifting up to his nostrils from the kitchen, or the thought of the mouthwatering caramel apples and hot apple dumplings that would be sold at the festival. Regardless, he was hungry, and knew that he would be the first one at the kitchen table when h...
Rock is derived from the genre Rock and Roll, and in the 1960’s passed through what many called the “golden age”. During this decade was when rock was reassured as a musical genre, and became due to the advances in the radio technologies on the last decade. During this period, several of the best rock bands and artists appeared like The Beatles or Jimmy Hendrix.
Her eyes were blue with age. Her skin had a pattern of its own of numberless branching wrinkles and as though a whole little tree stood in the middle of her forehead, but a golden color ran underneath, and the two knobs of her checks were illuminated by a yellow burning under the dark. Under the red rag her hair came down on her neck in the frailest of ringlets, still black, and with an odor like copper.
...a seductive love affair that no one who tasted the food was immune to its powers. They all became part of the food. There was so much power in the food it healed rifts in the community that had been there for years.
... I had never even seen most of the food displayed, I eagerly and respectfully tried each dish. After everyone in the room sat down at the massive table, the Rabbi picked up a glass of wine and made a prayer over it. Then, Rabbi Kanelsky passed around pieces of Challah bread to the entire table. This lunch festival was yet another ceremony dedicated to one of the member’s deceased relative. At the conclusion, the Rabbi said another prayer out loud for the deceased and the relative expressed his gratitude to everyone.
I arrived at my grandma’s house in bewilderment. The smell of flavored pork and freshly made red sauce wafted out of the windows and rose with the sound of laughter. The family was already there: all four of my aunts elbow deep into bowls of chicken, pork, sauces; my cousins and a couple of uncles with rolled up sleeves spreading
So far in this story the mood is very intense as many arguments and high stress situations have occurred. One of these high stress situations takes place during the Hershbergers’ family dinner:
“Marcellino! For the last time, PLEASE PASS THE SALAD DRESSING!,” my mother shouts to my dad jokingly. My oldest brother Marc, who has already finished his bowl of pasta, is signaling for his first refill of the night. Both my sisters are laughing hysterically at my dog, who has snatched my other brother 's chicken leg right out of his hand, and is now being chased around the kitchen while licking her chops and trying to scarf the bone down before being caught. This family dinner scene depicted was a normal part of my daily routine growing up. My family of seven made an effort to sit down once a day and eat a meal together. This provided a daily opportunity for meaningful conversations and the nurturing of close-knit relationships between my
Then she saw a greasy china plate that had bread crumbs, cheese and sausage. The pungent of cheese made her stomach grumble. The man was very rude and insulted her because she couldn’t read. Then Frances headed home and on her way, she bumped into a girl with a nice, green, winter coat. She imagined her Ma in that coat, twirling around with a smile on her face. The girl’s mother said a rather offensive sentence about Frances and walked away with her daughter.
The Golden Age is a story pattern archetype that refers to a perfect period that is ultimately utopian; specifically speaking, it is an era in the past when a civilization or a certain type of society enjoyed the pleasures of materialistic abundance, prosperity, peace, and happiness. Historically speaking, many civilizations in ancient times had their golden age, which is a peak phase a civilization achieves way before its ultimate decline or eventual demise. In this case, the empires of Babylon, Assyria, Egypt, Ancient Greece, Persia, and most notably, the Roman Empire are great examples of legendary civilizations that experienced one or more golden age phases. Although this may be true in history, the golden age as an archetypical story pattern
In the poem "The Joy of Cooking" by Elaine Magarrell explains how cooking becomes a way of thinking about someone else. The author has cooked her sister’s tongue and brother’s heart. The author's cynical tone allows readers insight into a complicated sibling relationship and the ongoing rivalry between siblings. The author never tells what her sister or brother does to make her so mad, but it is very clear that her sister's tongue and her brother's heart has something to do with the annoyance.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age was an outstanding film that portrayed what it was like to be the queen of England at the time. The movie showed many different situations that a ruler of any country would have to face. The actress that played Elizabeth did a wonderful job portraying how Elizabeth would have acted with each decision she had to make to keep herself and others safe. Queen Elizabeth was the first tolerant queen. She allowed the people of her country to be whatever religion that they wanted to be, that is if they didn’t break the laws. In the movie, at the beginning, she was talking to some of her royal people. They were telling her that if she was not going to control the Catholic people than they were going to rise with Philip II
Stewart successfully maintained the reader’s interest to the matter by using an immense method for ridiculing strange traditions or reactions or by the aid of thriving language devices no to mention in compare to the Western culture. As for his comedic tone and great sense of humour, Stewart described every incident in full-detailed ironic manner. First he gave a light hearted comment how the old Russian truck carrying hordes of wedding guests was the equivalent of the wedding Rolls Ricer back in his hometown. Then he ridiculed the idea behind letting the groom pretend he is searching for his bride when her hiding place is previously distinguished! He clearly expressed the extent of the uninviting and unappetising state the breakfast meal was; “slabs of white cheese”, “boiled sweets were arrayed in dizzy layers” and “a mountainous plate of sheep parts”.
