In the memoir, The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls, the author, was most influenced by her time in Phoenix, as indicated by how she describes the house they live in and their family situations. There were many things that happened here that changed her life dramatically. There were bad times and good times. The most important thing that changed her life for the worse was when her dad started drinking. It affected her so much that she even asked for him to stop drinking for her birthday. Jeanette stated, “Do you think you could maybe stop drinking?” (Jeannette 116). After she asked her dad to stop drinking he got very upset and decided he would stop.
