The Gilded Age changed everyday life for Americans. There were a lot of new inventions. They changed how people worked on farms to how they communicated with family and friends. People came from China and Europe to find a new life here. They left poverty to come here to find wealth. It wasn’t as easy as they thought it would be. During this time Irish immigrants were coming to America. When they came they were having hard times back home. They came to change their life. When they got here they found out it wasn’t what they expected. They had to go through an inspection. The first thing they had to do was take a physical examination. The people with serious health issues were sent back. If they passed they told them their occupation, their name, and finance situation. Most of them worked on railroads and cannels. They had little didn’t have that much money. They had very little income. When Germans first came here they had a hard time finding jobs. They took whatever job they could find. Most of them worked in sweatshops. They didn’t have money if they did they had very little money. They came here for a new life so they work hard to have the life they wanted to live. When Chinese immigrants started coming here they had to go through an exception similar to the on at Elis Island but they went to went Angle Island. They worked on railroads when they first came. Some of them went to the western cities to settle. They also worked in sweatshops and mines. Mines were very dangerous and dreadful according to Stephen Crane McClure’s. It was like a wedge because it made people look down on other people if they weren’t like them. “. But those who are below are crush down.” Said Henry George. If it didn’t happen we wouldn’t have the things we do today. Life would be way different. During this people weren’t treated fairly. A lot of people had a hard time during this. Yet it was good things that happen here. Things that changed the country and it everyday life.
