Cambodia is a country full of green forests, beautiful culture, and a violent past. This nation felt great influence from the Angkor Empire and brutal Khmer Rouge times. Some of their most prominent physical and cultural aspects include the Tonle Sap Lake, beautiful temples such as Angkor Wat, and the Cambodian Genocide (World Factbook). The Cambodian Genocide was an especially horrific time in this nation’s history, leaving terrible scars in the memories of those who survived (Cambodian Genocide: Leng Houth Personal Account). However, the Cambodian people have since formed a more positive way of life. Cambodia is a growing global economy with vibrant culture and great potential for further improvement.

Oil, gas, timber, gemstones, and iron ore are all valuable domestic resources (World Factbook). Humans have degraded forest resources greatly over time. Deforestation has created soil erosion issues across the country (FAO Representation in Cambodia). Mining practices are extremely harmful to the pre existing environment. Both of these activities as well as overfishing have all caused a decrease in local biodiversity (World Factbook). Summer Monsoon weather creates floods in the Mekong River Basin. However, I believe that getting help from non-governmental organizations such as the Global Business Community Against Human Trafficking, also known as gBCAT, will truly benefit this cause since human trafficking is an international issue (gBCAT). Partnering with organizations that have prior knowledge on how to react to, educate about, and put an end to human trafficking will truly change the mindset of employers, offenders, and the general public before a crime may even be committed. This would likely decrease the amount of atrocities committed against innocent people and therefore improve the human trafficking issue. Although, these issues may increase in nearby countries since it will hopefully be nonexistent in Cambodia. Serious offenders may just migrate to Thailand, Laos, or Vietnam and increase the human trafficking problems
