Throughout the centuries the role of the nurse has evolved through many changes due to the demands of healthcare. Currently, there seems to be a shift from the hospital setting and treating diseases to the community and preventive health. I think the future of the professional nurse will continue to evolve around social, economic, political, economic, technological, and organizational issues. As the public becomes more involved in their care, nurses will become more involved in the community to address its needs and assist in preventive care. Technological presence in healthcare allowed many physicians to better treat their patients. Since the advancement of technology in the medical field, more lives have been saved and the quality of life is continuously improving. Now, physicians can access their patient’s information or any information they need without being physically present in the hospital. Nevertheless, the disadvantage of technological presence that I can think of is the over dependency of healthcare staff once the technology has adapted. For instance, whenever we have a one to two hours downtime with our EMR (EPIC), healthcare staff often feels lost and feels that the paper charting as a backup requires too much time and
