The Front de liberation du Quebec (FLQ) was created in 1963 by two Quebecois, Raymond Villenueve and Gabriel Hudon and a Belgian, Georges Schooters. The organization was made up of Quebecois separatists who functioned like a professional military, they were mostly active between 1963 until 1970. The FLQ was also influenced by other separatist groups from other countries such as Algeria, Vietnam and Cuba. The FLQ was highly regarded as a terrorist organization because the use of violence to achieve their political goals which were to overthrow the current Quebec government, to fight for the independence of Quebec from Canadian confederation and to establish a French-speaking Quebecois workers’ society as well as rescuing their people from Anglo-Saxon …show more content…

During the attack in Westmount, Squadron Sergeant Major Walter Leja was severely injured by a mailbox bomb as he was trying to neutralize the bomb. The FLQ was supplied with cash, ammunitions and firearms to conduct their violent actions by two of their associate groups, the Armee de liberation du Quebec (ALQ) and the Armee revolutionnaire du Quebec (ARQ). Both of the groups obtained the supplies through armed robberies which resulted in high number of casualties and economic loss. Between 1963 and 1970, the FLQ had been responsible for over two hundred crimes which included robberies and bombings that occurred in highly populated and important places such as at McGill University, the home of Montreal mayor Jean Drapeau, provincial Department of Labour and in 1969, the FLQ continued their fearsome acts of terrorism when they bombed the Montreal Stock Exchange which caused immense destruction and severely injuring 27 people. 1. The FLQ organizations should be tracked down using all the resources and capabilities available for the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec. We should form an Anti-Terrorism task forces and send them in a secret mission to hunt down the remaining members of the FLQ and imprison them. Thus, giving the chance to the Government of Canada to publicly announced that they have caught all the remaining members of the FLQ organizations and sentence them to long period of years. The leaders of the FLQ will be executed for their violent methods of action.
Pros- The members of the FLQ will not expect the attack of Anti-Terrorism task force since the FLQ will most likely believe that the Canadian Government has succumb to their demands. Due to the unexpected attacks, the members of the FLQ organizations will scatter in fear and they wont have the opportunity to regroup.
Cons- Since these undercover operations are unknown to the public, the Canadian citizens in Quebec will grow weary and anxious with the current unpredictable situations. Nobody knows when and how the FLQ will launch their next attacks, every citizen will continue to live under constant fear of terrorism. The government of Canada will slowly lose the trust of the Canadian citizens and their credibility to solve the current situations will be
