Fittest Body with Nutrition: Benefit of Mandatory Nutrition Education in Society
As living organisms, food is one of the resources that is essential to live and for the body to function normally. I believe every country around the world is faced with a nutritional issue due to economic, foods and environment because I have experience with health and nutrition issue in both developing and developed societies. Currently, government required every import and export food products to have a nutrition label on to let the customer know the nutrition fact of products. This gives us the ideas to know what the sources are contained in the products. However, the U.S still has the highest percentage of obesity and diseases that relate to nutritional. I have read one of the articles Why Schools Need a Mandatory Nutrition Curriculum by Puccini and Romero and this article explained us how being obese effect today’s lives, especially the children and youth. According to this research, they predicted that “youth today will be the generation of American to love shorter live than their parents as a direct result of the food they eat.” I did the research on this topic at website like Chalkbeat New York and see how providing MNE in school would prevent from obesity and type II diabetes and so on. For example, MNE program taught the student how to read the nutrition facts, how to choose and prepare healthier meals at home or restaurant. Moreover, they showed the video of Food, Inc. to give the students the idea of where the fast food restaurants got their meats from. The percentage of students likely to become vegetarian are increased after seeing that video and gained the knowledge from MNE. For example, not having enough nutrition may cause disease, illness and development disorder. I believe many people and families would like to keep their environment better and concerns about their health. We all want to live and grow healthier and stronger. Unfortunately, FDA and USDA proclaimed that food law is very complicated to balance. However, governments have a responsibility to regulate the food as much as they can to prevent themselves and the environment. Every society needed MNE to learn how the nutrition works and how it helps them to maintain and control their diet. Learning nutrition at the early age would have less obesity. The sooner we act, the better it is. Students will gain more the knowledge from nutrition class than at home or workplace. Knowledge will help understanding of how nutrition impact and reveal to their lives. It is a big issue for the student to know the deal of nutrition, which is just not just only the information but it is also the knowledge and skill that appeal and impact in global reality. They not only state the flaws in this generation’s diet but also logically explain the reasons behind the downfall in peoples’ diet and offer better ways to approach our health.
Hunger and obesity comes as neighbors. When there is insufficient funds for this family, there will be hunger. Thus, for them to overcome this hunger they must stretch out their budget to feed their empty stomachs. With fast food restaurants appearing in more areas, one place they have remained is on high schools campuses. Having fast food on campuses has its benefits such as fast and cheap food and it can be easily accessed. The negative aspect of having fast food on high school campuses is how much is being consumed. The students are not getting the right nutrition to fuel their minds for the school work. In summary, parents and schools have the biggest impact on a child’s nutritional choices in many different ways. Parents must be a model for their children and show them how to make good choices in regards to food. Elementary and middle school is where children continue to grow and learn about nutrition. High schoolers display set-in-stone eating habits. However, there is always room to learn and improve. In adulthood, the best way to prevent nutritional diseases such as heart disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cancer is by simply continuing good eating and exercise habits.
