The Feminist Movement is Necessary: Men are Paid more Than Women

As defined by Merriam Webster dictionary, feminism is “the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.” It is not the belief that women are superior to men, but the need for women to be given the equal treatment they deserve.There are many physical differences between men and women but that is not an excuse for unfair treatment. Women work just as hard as men but earn less. Women are expected to be poised and ladylike. And millions of women are afraid to be out alone because of the threat of being sexually assaulted. But men don’t have to worry about walking to their car alone or making sure they fit society’s standards for what is attractive. While some individuals believe that males are biologically superior to females, as a society it is necessary for everyone to be considered and treated as equal. If left unattended to, gender discrimination will continue due to women earning less pay than men (even when they are working the same job), women are being held to unfair and sometimes outdated gender stereotypes, and sexual assault is becoming more and more frequent.
Men are paid more than women.; it’s a pretty well known fact. In 2012, women were still earning only 77 cents for every dollar men made, and it’s worse for minorities. Laura Bassett from the Huffington Post points out that “within some minority groups, the wage gap is even worse: African-American women earn 69 cents for every dollar paid to African-American men, and Latinas earn just 58 cents on the dollar compared to Latino men. The disparity grows wider when these women are compared to non-Hispanic white men” (5).
