American Dream: The American Family And The Buried Family

When I think of an American Family I also think of The American Dream. In 1931 a man by the name of James Truslow Adams first publicly defined American Dream as “An dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement”. Adam’s even went on to say “This dream should be a dream of social order. A dream where Male and women should be able to gain to the fullest stature of what they are capable and also be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position.” When we take an American Family and we place the American Dream into an American Family at the end of the day the American Family should end off a pretty good happy family, but as we all know no family, single person, mom, dad, child no one

The story of Buried Child happens to be a bit of a Unique type of story to be it’s a story that we can but we don’t read about every day. The beginning of the story sets the tone for the whole story Dodge the supposed to be man of the house is lying on the couch with what happens to be a half empty bottle of liquor underneath him, so we could most likely assume that he is drunk. Dodge happens to be discussing old past events with his wife Haile, events such as one of their son’s name Ansel, a model son, who was murdered years before, allegedly by his psychotic, Catholic wife on their wedding night. The couple basically argues until finally Haile leaves the house for church. The next character who is introduced is Dodge and Haile’s other son by the name of Tilden, Tilden happens to be a very weird character their eldest son who happens to be in his late forties, a lost son who has no purpose, no direction in his life. Tilden is supposed to be looking after his Father when he come in the house with his hand full of corn telling everyone
