Change is the alteration which results in an important shift in the way we perceive and interact with the world. It is the process of being reformed in appearance or turned into something or someone new. The concept of change is very significant as it gives us new experiences whether positive or negative. Being the best student was something I never had to worry or wish for due to my devotions towards studies. It was the third time I got awarded as one of the best students in high school. My dad bought me a brand new play station 3 as a gift of acknowledgment towards my good performance in school. Video game became one of my favorite hobbies. I developed the interest in gaming and spent most of my time on it. It taught me some driving skills making it very easy in physical driving I spent approximately 8 hours on playing games every day. My reasoning abilities also got improved via puzzles and adventure games.
The excitement of gaming turned into addiction to the extent that I downloaded games on every device including my cell phone. It began affecting my life negatively in terms of academics, social, family and religious life. The ability to concentrate on studies was significantly reduced by the distractions. Although, I graduated high school with passes in all the subjects, it wasn’t what I expected. I could have done better If I had dedicated enough time on studies.
When I started college, as If I did learnt from my mistakes. I continued with gaming practice until I realized the impact it had on me. My academic performance changed drastically and started experiencing challenges. The more time I spent on playing games, the more I became cunctative. I started receiving low grades in various assignments. At times, I even forg...

During my week of change, preparation towards school and class was maximized. My grades in all assignment and courses started increasing. My daily schedule was followed subsequently without any interference
I always taught playing games as a way of staying exultant was irreplaceable. My week of change made me realized th
Although I will be difficult, I have decided to carry on with this change. The change brought me So many benefits that I taught was going to lose I never taught I could give up social media. I have realized that video games was an obstacle against my academics and social life, therefor I have decided to quit it and put forth my academics as my priority.
According to Aviv Weinstein (2010), from the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, “Computer game addiction is excessive or compulsive use of computer and video games that may interfere with daily life” (p. 1). A survey done to measure the negative relationship between video games and addiction involved kids from the age of 13 to 17 (Brunborg, G. S., Mentzoni, R. A., & Frøyland, L. R., 2014). To no surprise, there was a relationship between depression, low academic achievement, conduct problems
...e. I thought I was playing a game but I was really getting an education. The funny thing is that although we kept score, I can’t remember who won or lost. I discovered that in life, sometimes it doesn’t really matter who wins or loses. I learned to be nice and not hurt anyone. I was taught how to follow rules and play fair. I found out that a storm drain is too heavy to lift and sometimes we just had to forget about the lost ball. I understood that friends were good to have on your side. Childhood was a time when I felt loved and accepted by my friends. In my youth, I learned how to get along in life by playing a simple childhood game called Kickball.
Finally, video games addiction should be taken seriously because it affects gamers’ lives. Each individual should take prevention measures for this community problem and help people who are struggling with this addiction in order to avoid the harmful consequences. In time when computers are taking great part of our time we should try to keep in touch with the reality regardless of the appeal of the virtual life.
...hat you don't notice anything around you. The long term effects of gaming is different than what most would likely imagine, they include the facts that; “gamers are better at jobs that are active or mentally puzzling, and the majority of gamers live happier lives because they can do something they love with just the push of a button”(Walsh, 2004, p.22).
If I were to make a change to myself, I would encourage myself to give up gaming. This would including video game consoles such as PS4 or Xbox and PC games as well.
There are several negative stereotypes associated with video games and those who play them; some of these may often hold true. However, there are plenty of learning opportunities in video games. While the direct purpose of some games is to educate or train, other games that do not directly have this purpose can still become a learning experience for the player. As Ntiedo Etuk, president of the educational video game company Tabula Digital said, “The traditional view of video games has been that they are distractions from the task of learning” (Electronic Education Report 1). Video games are an effective tool for learning and retaining skills both inside and outside the classroom environment. The basic cycle of game play--the introduction to the game, game play, collaboration, improvement of these between each round, and evaluation at the end of the game (Klievink and Janssen 159)--are nearly parallel to the traditional classroom learning cycle of reading a textbook or listening to a lecture, taking a quiz, studying, focusing on items missed on the quiz, and taking a test or exam. Within this cycle, there are many opportunities to develop and perfect both educational, life, and occupational skills.
The least of importance are the studies from Hope M. Cummings from the University of Michigan, and Elizabeth A. Vandewater from the University of Texas, that show video games can make people spend less time doing homework (2007). During the school year 2002-2003 they collected a survey from nearly 1,500 U.S. kids and teens from ages 10 to 19 (Cummings & Vandewater 2007). About 80 percent of the percentage were boys and more than 36 percent of the group reported playing video games (Cummings & Vandewater 2007). Adolescent gamers spent 30 percent less time reading and 34 percent less time doing homework compared to non-gamers (Cummings & Vandewater 2007).
The video games addiction causes poor scores. According to” Playing Video Games Causes Poor Grades “,’’[G]PA [grade point average] was lower in those who played video games for more than one hour. Even though this study cohort had a relatively high overall GPA, the difference between an 'A ' (less than one hour of video games) versus a 'B ' (more than one hour of video games) is a significant change in grade." 'B ' (more than one hour of video games) is a significant change in grade."(Chan, Philip A., and Terry Rabinowitz). This article has content about a study which shows the students when they addict the video games, they get a lower score than the students who don’t play video games. In addition, when the GPA is lower, the students are hard to get a degree. In “Video Gaming Is a Waste of Time." article, it has a content about wasting time when people spend too much time playing the video games and ignore their study. In the article, the author shows evidence to against John Messerly’s opinion. John Messerly is a lecturer at the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin; he thinks that his students can earn money from playing games. In fact, his students have to spend a lot of time playing games and focus on the characters in games. But, they earn the money from playing the game is too little which compares to their work. If they spend time finding a job, they will be paid a higher wage. Additionally, when his students study hard and get a degree in game programming, they can get much money than they take the time to play games. In fact, people can see that study give students a lot of chance to get a good job. It is a big mistake if the students ignore their study to play video games. According to “Kids ' excess video gaming tied to anxiety “,[A]bout nine percent of children and teens play video games
Video games are much more than just a way to pass time. It is an opportunity to experience new people and social environments, find out interests and skill sets, and to also, in an extreme case, find a career like Markiplier has done. In short I just wanted to say that I wouldn’t be where I am with my goals today if it weren’t for Markiplier’s ability to make his fans see his support of their dreams and the highlight of the most important things in reaching your goals of which include taking chances, believing in yourself, and never giving up. In the words of Mark, “never give up, no matter what may set you back, and know that at the end of the road, you’re going to have something that you can be proud of.” Don’t stop until you’re where you want to be, and even then just keep moving
Change is a word that I have constantly heard throughout my high school years. It is a transformation through which everyone goes whether it's for the better or for the worse. For me the meaning and value of change has helped me to focus on the goals I have to accomplish. For others, it is simply just a phase we go through. All of us here have been able to learn and develop from our changes to be come a better and successful person.
Through games we are learning how to master motivation and engagement. Games have the amazing ability to keep people engaged for a long time, build relationships and trust between people, and develop their creative potentials.
Video games are often portrayed in a negative manner because they are seen as having an "addictive" quality. Addiction has been defined as "A primary, chronic disease, characterized by impaired control over the use of a psychoactive substance and/or behavior. Despite the wonderful benefits games offer as diversions, spending too much time, to the neglect of normal life duties, and social development with direct contact with others can and often does happen. Clinically, the manifestations occur along biological, sociological, spiritual and especially psychological. Some psychological effects that affect the behaviors are failure to play outdoor games, difficulties in work or school, telling lies to everyone, decreased attention to personal hygiene, decreased attention to family and friends, and disturbances in the sleep cycle. Many video game addicts have strug...
The use of smartphones in class affects students’ focus and academic performance in school and their relationship with their teachers. “Staying up all hours to play online games, letting homework slide and avoiding friendships in the real world are some symptoms to watch for in intense gamers” (Tamsyn). This shows that students who are obsessed with playing games on their smartphones (and other technologies) can be easily distracted from doing their homework and finishing their projects. When students also play too many video games, it can result to a lack of sleep which makes them come to school late and get moody. Teachers notice that some of their students’ marks are dropping due to students not handing in their assignments on time and not paying attention during classes. In...
Many people believe that video games change people and mislead them to do bad things, such as drugs and alcohol, but it is the opposite. Gaming prevents people from such acts and actually helps to keep them away from the substances. Lots of people, mainly parents, believe that video games harm people so they try to keep their children away from them. In reality, video games make your life better. Video games can provide many benefits to your lifestyle as “numerous academic studies indicate that playing video games has many psychological and even physical benefits” (Guarini). Gaming helps stimulate the brain and advances your problem solving abilities. There are disadvantages to gaming, which is true, but the amount of benefits outweigh them by far.
Video games are not considered as a serious addiction amongst teenagers and adults, often being compared to severe cases of addiction, such as drug abuse or alcohol abuse that may result in the appearance of a decrease in the severity of the addiction. However, video game addiction is a serious matter and has unhealthy consequences for an individual 's life and their health; spending too much time playing video games can take a great toll on one 's physical and mental well-being. Continuing unhealthy patterns of video game activity for prolonged periods of time can result in mental health issues, physical health problems, and a decline in a social life.
