Pharmacy appeals to me because of its potential to ease people’s physical and emotional suffering. The simple act of listening and being empathetic to the concerns of other’s health and wellbeing has inspired me to learn more about the profession. Perseverance in college followed by the biotech industry has provided me with the necessary research skills to be successful. The ever-changing pharmacy field would allow me to continue my education, culminating in an exciting career.

The importance of working hard and not taking anything for granted was highly stressed at home. This mindset motivated me to spend extra time studying and to do well in school. Reflecting back on my undergrad years, I quickly became intrigued by biology and chemistry courses. I was fascinated by the microbiology of bacterial, fungal, and parasitic pathogens and the resultant infectious disease states. I look forward to learning more about these conditions and to guide patients through proper medication regiments in the field of pharmacy. My passion for science continued in graduate school in an environmental endocrinology and reproductive physiology lab. Before long, I found my niche as a lead researcher investigating the effects of an industrial compound on spermatogenesis and steroidogenesis in rodent models. I completed my research with profound respect for the complex endocrine processes that work with body systems to maintain homeostasis. I anticipate learning more about these processes from a pharmacology perspective in the future.

...college years. Aside from developing confidence and leadership skills, I was able to help my fellow students succeed. Time spent educating and helping fellow students locate and apply for scholarships helped shape, change and direct my life to serve humanity. As a recipient of a scholarship myself, I remember the caring feeling when my mentor reached out and aided me through the process.

My past has inspired me to pursue a career in which I can make maximum use of my education, attributes, and abilities. Becoming a pharmacist is an extension of my genuine interest in the welfare of others. Through my academic, work and volunteering experiences, I have been able to interact with individuals from many different cultures and ages. I am confident I will respond to future patients in an empathetic and respectful manner to attain the quality of life they deserve.
