The Ethical Dilemma Of Artificial Intelligence

Have you ever waited weeks to receive a diagnosis from a doctor? AI can change that. AI, otherwise known as artificial intelligence, is a computer system programmed with tasks that usually require human intelligence. Programmed with specific instructions and code for tasks to do, AI is a step away from humans. Robots are mainly programmed to do tasks such as: putting cars together, building toys to be shipped and doing repetitive work humans would rather avoid. AI, though, is more than putting products together. The ethical dilemma of AI stems from the differences superintelligence has from humans. Because of AI’s capability of tasks, it might be the last invention made by humans. Reasons AI hovers above us in technological processes includes: …show more content…

In “9 Ways Artificial Intelligence is Affecting the Medical Field,” by Amanda Page, it’s made clear that AI can most definitely outwork normal doctors. (Slide 5) “Unlike a human doctor, AI is un-phased by numbers of patients, long work hours, and task redundancy.” It’s well known doctors are hard workers, but it’s also no surprise they aren’t super human either. AI is more than capable of taking tedious tasks of their hands, for instance; the robots are able to check in the patients, take vitals and bring medication if needed to certain patients. Some will argue AI is unneeded in the first place because of the constant repairs needed to keep up with the robot’s tasks. (Par 17) “Programs need to be updated to suit the changing requirements, and machines need to be made smarter. In case of a breakdown, the cost of repair may be very high. Procedures to restore lost code or data may be time-consuming and costly.” While repairs might be costly, they are rarely needed. Humans can work for only hours at a time without fatigue, whereas AI’s task completion can go on for weeks without sleep, food, or cigarette …show more content…

In “9 Ways Artificial Intelligence is Affecting the Medical Field,” by Amanda Page, is the therapeutic care that comes along with artificial intelligence. Robotic dogs that are programmed to act as an actual dog are being used more often. (Slide 4) “Robotic pets help nurture brain function by delaying cognitive problems that in turn improves quality of life, and reduces the reliance on social services, allowing a person to stay in their home longer with less medical assistance.” With the help of artificial intelligence, people who suffer from Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Autism and any other neurological problems can now be comforted by AI. Admittedly, this is widely argued as not okay. (Par 20) “Concepts such as care, understanding, and togetherness cannot be understood by machines, which is why, how much ever intelligent they become, they will always lack the human touch.” While AI is a piece of machinery, its ability to relate to the people of mental illness is extraordinary. The patient’s connection with the robotic animal eventually is built, creating a friendship they don’t even recognize as out of the
