From a young age, most people have gone through many relationships with other people who were not their family. Thus, we often acknowledge these relationships as friendships. But the word friend is too broad, so people categorize their friends into several types. In her book “Necessary Losses: The Lovers, Illusions, Dependencies and Impossible Expectations That All of Us Have to Give Up in Order to Grow”, Judith Viorst divided friendships into six types. Those are convenience friends, special interest friends, historical friends, crossroad friends, cross-generational friends and close friends.
However, it is those Friendships which are true whom take serious of the duties, obligations, and responsibilities of friendship. Everyone knows that when you are friends with someone they partake in certain rights and privileges. As a wise man once said “A friend is a single soul dwelling in two bodies.”

I think that friendship is another crucial relationship that has different spectrums like an intimate relationship. I was very surprised to discover that there are rules in friendship. When I was a kid, I always thought that rules make the foundations of friendship very strong. Whenever, I made friends during elementary school we used to set rules at the beginning. It is very funny as I remember that with one of my friends I made an agreement and contract for our friendship.

On a conscious level, we rarely spend much time actually thinking about and classifying our friends. However, since I was a small child, my mother taught me to recognize and appreciate various types of friends. I have discovered that there are three different types of friends. I group them according to how well I know them and how well they know me. We encounter each type of friend everyday, whether in school, home, or at the gym. First, there are the "pest friends"- general acquaintances. Next, there are "guest friends"- social partners. Lastly, we have "best friends"- our true friends.
In life we come across many people. Some will hate us while others will adore us. The ones who hate us can be referred to as enemies and the ones who show us adoration are referred to as friends.
