This paper discusses what psychological disorders are and how to cope with them. It explains that psychological disorders are also known as mental disorders that affect the brain, which in turn alter the way people may behave. There are several different types of disorders that individuals can suffer from. A few that are mentioned are anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. All three of these can be classified as a mental illness because they affect mood, thinking, and behavior. Like with any disease, signs and symptoms are apparent. Individuals must discover what actions they can take to learn how to manage their symptoms. Several treatment options are available to help reduce those symptoms, which can lead to a less stressful lifestyle. Often times when we think of disorders, we tend to visualize anything physical. In defense, physical disorders or diseases are more apparent to the eyes; however, they are more usually acute versus chronic in terms of feeling, pain, and emotion. Psychological illnesses are chronic to those aspects due to the fact that they interfere with one’s ability to think rationally and utilize coping mechanisms. In contrast to physical disorders that affect the tissues of the body, there are also mental disorders that make an impression on the mind and emotions of the brain, which in turn, can eventually affect physical demeanor as well. When a disease impedes on the mental health of a person, it is termed mental illness. These disorders influence not only the mind and ability to cope with stress, but also interfere with the daily functioning of life and interactions with others, which is why they can be so burdensome and challenging in each individual. Many individuals have to learn how to cope with certain disorders in order to be content with their life; otherwise, it could lead to thoughts of suicide. These illnesses are not always easy to deal with, whereas it may take a lot of determination and motivation to try and manage a disorder to try and prevent it from interfering with every day activities. Most psychological disorders are not curable, although they can involve specific treatments to help minimize the symptoms an individual will experience.
