Some of the most popular social media sites that teen like are Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat , Facebook. The teens that go on here show what they may be doing and these apps let them put their location on there. Some teens also may not have a clue who they have as a friend on these sites. Now social media has taken over our lives especially teens lives. Social media today is like a trend , everyone wants to have a social media site or else they feel left out. A couple years ago teens had no clue what social media was or even how to use it. Until 2003 that is when it was at its highest peak introducing MySpace “ MySpace was once the perennial favorite. It did so by tempting the key young adult demographic with music, music videos, and a funky, feature-filled environment ( Digital Trends Staff ).” When this social media came out it attracted teens to see what can they do on there. Then this also allowed them to communicate with their friends when they aren 't together. Back when social media started these teens were aware of what they were putting on their sites because they were cautious of what can happen if you put too much. This wasn 't just the only popular social media sites it had just
James Franco says “Attention seems to be the name of the game when it comes to social networking”, I agree with this as all teenagers in today’s society seem to want is attention. This affects them by distancing themselves from who they truly are and what they believe in as they are very focused on trying to give the people only what they like to see. For example, the Snapchat article states, “Teens have this fear that people might be doing something cooler than us, so we feel like we need to make it seem like we are doing something even cooler.” Teenagers go that extra step of doing something that they might not agree with just to feel good about getting other’s attention. This has affected teenagers because they have forgotten of expressing what they believe in or what they
While not always seen, overall, teenagers get far less privacy than adults do. Between schools checking through the belongings of their students without solid evidence to allow it, or parents monitoring the activity of their children online, teenagers today are subject to much of their privacy being taken away. It is true that this can sometimes be helpful in busting drug dealers or keeping teenagers from getting involved with bad habits online. However, it can also have an adverse effect, ruining the relationship between a parent and his or her child, or other relationships throughout the rest of the teenager’s life. Teenagers should be allowed more privacy, if not as much as adults have, as it will keep them less fearful, as well as help to keep their interpersonal relationships strong and their emotions in a good state.
Different people, cultures, and nations have a wide variety of expectations about how much privacy is entitled to or what constitutes an invasion of privacy. Privacy is the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information. Personal privacy has been declining in the past year which is caused by today’s technological society. With the latest technology such as face scanners, data collecting, and highly advanced software’s, privacy can be compromised, which is exactly what is being done today and it is unconstitutionally intrusive.
Terms and Laws have gradually change overtime dealing with different situations and economic troubles in the world in general. So then dealing with these issues the workplace has become more complex with little or no rights to privacy. Privacy briefly explained is a person’s right to choose whether or not to withhold information they feel is dear to them. If this something will not hurt the business, or its party members then it should be kept private. All employees always should have rights to privacy in the workplace. Five main points dealing with privacy in public/private structured businesses are background checks, respect of off duty activities/leisure, drug testing, workplace search, and monitoring of workplace activity. Coming to a conclusion on privacy, are there any limits to which employers have limitations to intrusion, dominance on the employee’s behavior, and properties.
So I ask, what is social media? Social Media is websites and applications that allow users to create and share contents or surf social networking. Social Media has its pros and cons. Some social media accounts ask a lot of questions and clarifications about your background, such as your number, email, birthday, and so on to confirm the account you want to make. Other social media don’t ask for much information, maybe just an email and number. Most social media sites say that you have to be at least 13 to make an account. It can be very addicting to people. Without social media, many of us would be bored because we don’t have that variety of didn’t entertaining or interesting things. You can post pictures on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and so on and get a lot of likes and comments. Or if you post on snapchat, you’ll get a lot of views. Social Media gives you the control to post, like, comment, and share. It’s like having your own imaginary world that you have power over. As I said before, social media comes in all kinds of ways and everyone is dean to find something they like about it.
allowed people to create a profile and share everything about themselves to the whole world. When social sites first were developed, they only linked people by their name and address. Since sites such as Xanga, Tagged, and Facebook were gaining so much popularity, more users were logging on, and online predators are becoming a problem. These sites are so easy, that it is not that hard for predators to “pose” as another person and trick young adults. It is extremely difficult to differentiate the real person that you are looking for from a fake.
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Despite existing laws and privacy enhancing technological methods, the US is progressively taking full advantage of its dominant position not just as the home of companies like Facebook, Google and Twitter but also acknowledging jurisdiction on all websites registered in the US. Therefore, countries such Brazil, Iran, Russia, India and China “are now challenging United States hegemony of the Internet and even calling for the creation of a new governing body to oversee Internet policy” (Brooke, 2012, p.245).
Social media has caused a substantial decrease in face-to-face time, stopped people from working effectively, and has caused an increase in bullying. Social media as defined by dictionary.com is “websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts”. People use social media for networking, education, and entertainment. Some of today’s most popular social media sites include Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Vine, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Facebook is used as a basic social media site.
Although social media is a healthy channel for personal interactions among friends and peers for the youth of today, the lack of understanding about online privacy creates a severe threat on multiple levels. Many teenagers and young adults remain oblivious to the consequences of their online posts and have little to no discretion when sending personal information to...
In today’s life in the public eye can become a huge responsibility to the public. This is truer today as it has ever been before. This is due to the new existence of social media sites and sources like Facebook. When users first create an account, people think that the site protects their privacy. They are to an extent, but could the things people do to insure their privacy backfire? Social media has played a big part in today’s society, and it has made things very open to the public. However, with this there comes some loss of privacy. Social media sites have privacy settings that the users can change to their liking. Are the settings enough? Could they cause more problems than they are worth?
We live in a world that has become addicted and dedicated toward social media and it is driving America’s youth into the ground. Teenagers and adults are so wrapped up in social media that is runs their lives every day. Constantly people are checking their phones for the latest on social networks. They have to see pictures, tweets, statuses, comments, likes, and the list goes on and on. Social media is becoming the focus point in the modern American society that it is beginning to control people’s social skills, communication skills, and their livelihood.
The correlation between the development of youth and social media has become blatant. Although few of the consequences are favorable, the majority have displayed a negative impact. The drive social media can implement on youth is exceptional. The pressure and strain social media can place on our youth is an enduring force which leads individuals to question themselves as a person and feel inclined to fit a norm expressed in media and social media of our society. The underlying force social media can play in the lives of the youth is astonishing and is a force that must be dealt with and controlled, for it not only holds the power to give an individual strength, but also to break them down.
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
Social media is a relatively recent phenomenon. The beauty of social media is in its versatility. For example, I use my Facebook account to connect with people both continents away, and my classmates, to keep up with the latest news to read a few jokes, and just keep up with what all my friends are doing.
