“More than 1.14 billion people estimated in 2011 to be living below the international poverty line of 1.25 dollars a day” (Prabhakar 1). Poverty is an issue that impacts people all over the world, even in our own backyard of Greeley Colorado we can see the effects of poverty effecting people. Poverty is explained by the Webster dictionary as the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions, or in the other words the state of being poor. Many people correlate the definition of poverty to being an international only issue that effects people in country’s that are not rich in greater resources or are lacking the development in becoming a wealthier nation. What one should know about poverty is that
Just like families who are in the transitional house they also are affected by the same problems as people around the world. The one problem that correlates together with the transitional house and global poverty is the amount of unemployment with people who are in poverty. “Research shows that low-skilled, low-educated workers and the young are most vulnerable to unemployment in a downturn”. (Salvatore 1). The issue of poverty around the world is that adults do not have the correct skills or education which is the reason why they fall under unemployment, because they do not have the correct job to pay for bills, or possibly they do not have the ability to get a job because of their low education and skill level. This impacts people around the world and in Greeley because they do not have the correct tools to remove them selves from poverty. Globally the issues of poverty and low education go hand and hand, many countries have education systems that are helping children in low poverty areas work there way to becoming successful in the future. Just like countries globally the transitional house helps children get into the Greeley school system, with a free education this helps out children get their education and succeed just like
The factor of interdepended in the issue of poverty is very strong. With other people who are under poverty connect greatly together because both groups of people who fall into poverty can connect about the struggle that they may encounter with one another. The complexity factors would involve someone who is in poverty trying to interact with a wealthier member of society. These are two complete different groups of people who would possibly have a hard time trying to interact with other people. This can also connect with the area of power and politics; our government locally has the ability to fund for programs like homeless shelters, food banks and programs such as free and reduced lunch for students in public education. These programs are being powered by the power and politics of our government. Many questions come up on how can our government have so many programs that help out families who are in poverty, but yet still have millions of Americans who struggle below the poverty line. The problem is not only affecting people in Greeley and across the United States, but globally the problem of poverty is hard to fix. The power and politics in other countries are not doing what needs to be done to help out families who are struggling. Yes one may argue that the government may not have funding to help out families, but why cant other countries and organizations
