The Effects of Pornography on Sexual Offenders.
Pornography as today, is the representation in books, magazines, photographs, films and media, of scenes of sexual behavior that are erotic or arouse sexual acts. Defining and classifying materials that are considered pornographic has proven somewhat elusive and has varied considerably across time and across different social and cultural context. Pornography can be divided into three categories; Erotica: which are images that express mutual pleasurable sexual expression between people who have enough power to be there by positive choice. Participants have the same power and there is no sexist; Nonviolent pornography: images that have no explicitly violent content but show unequal power relationships;

The frequency of pornography can also influence in the reaction of a sexual offender. There is a difference between the effects of pornography on a sexual offender that is high risk, and an offender that that is low risk. An offender that is high risk is more susceptible to engage in violent sexual acts after being exposed to pornography due to their hostile personality. Also a high risk sexual offender is more prone to recidivism after watching pornographic material. Another factor that contributes to person’s sexual behavior is the influence by their overall emotional state, if they were rejected or most of the time they felt anger. Many individuals may had lived in a disrupted family where there was no support and it was mostly a conflictive environment. It is demonstrated that men with higher attraction to sexual aggression were more likely to get aroused when exposed to sexually violent. Offenders that are exposed to erotica, report that their aggression decreased, while offenders exposed to nonviolent sexual behavior and violent sexual behavior significantly increase aggression. When high risk offenders are exposed to deviant forms of pornography where the male is in power, this helps them shape their fantasies and …show more content…
There is much research that contributes to both points of view; whether pornography contribute to sexual behavior or if it does not have any effects. My opinion on this is that pornography like any other particular phenomenon that can cause addiction, sooner or later is going to have side effects. For example, researchers that believe that pornography does not have any effect on the individual argue that the pornography user, use pornography in order to space their reality and that they will not harm some other person because they live in a virtual world, however that individual will get tired at some point of living that virtual world and pornography will not be sufficient in order to achieve the desire pleasure that the individual is seeking. As many researches have shown also a person past experience can affect their sexual behavior; if the individual grew up in an environment where women where seen as sexual objects and less than men, this mentality can create some more aggressive behaviors towards women and
A pornographic world [What is normal] by Robert Jensen takes an inside look at the culture of masculinity and what role pornography takes in shaping that culture. Jensen describes how he was forced to play a “macho” role as a child out of fear of being bullied and ridiculed for not being manly enough. Pornography use started for him and his friends in grade school – they would steal magazines and hide them to share in a group later. He talks of how he learned of a social concept, called the “ideal of prostitution” (the notion of men “buying” women in various forms of undress, solely for their pleasure), at a young age. While there has always been a stigma around pornography, whether stemming from moral or religious reasons, Jenson continued to use porn until his 30s.
Sexuality has often been confused with pornography. It has been trivialised as something that is a denigration and denial of true feeling by sensationalising genuine expressivism.
Men watch 2 hours of porn average. 34 percent of youth online receive unwanted pornographic exposure. 93 percent of boys are exposed to internet porn. 68 percent of young men use pornography weekly and 21 percent of young men use pornograph daily. Pornography is sex education for most people. Only 22 states require public schools to teach sex education. Porn causes men to get addicted and this causes social isolation. 83 percent of boys have seen group sex online. 33 percent of boys have seen bondage online. 18 percent of boys have seen rape online. Boys have a strong sexual impulse. Exposure to pornography increases sexual aggression by 22 percent and increases the acceptance of rape myths (that women desire sexual violence) by 31 percent. American culture are producing rapists. Every 9 seconds a woman is beaten or assaulted. 35 percent of male college students indicated some likelihood of raping if they knew they could get away with it. 1 in 5 female college students is the victim of an attempted or completed sexual assault. Parents raise boys to become men and to reject feminine. This leads men to disrespecting women because they do not see them as a human. According to Geoffrey Canada, “The music industry presents overtly sexual messages that denigrate women and portray them as sex toys. Video games offer violent messages, and even the sports video games include taunting and teasing. Movies portray

A review of the contemporary research on the negative effects of pornography is replete of scholarly and anecdotal evidence and opinion about the damages associated with viewing it. But the evidence is limited when it comes to criticism of mainstream media’s damages to certain groups, particularly young women with their romantic comedies.

To sufficiently take a side in the ever-growing debate of pornography, one must first define the concept around which this discourse surrounds itself. A working definition for pornography is a piece of material that has the object purpose of arousing erotic feelings. Radical feminists, however, strictly define it as “the act of sexual subordination of women” (Dworkin 1986).
Both Altman and Brison write their opposing sides of pornography. Pornography is defined as “the graphic sexually explicit subordination of women through pictures or words that also includes women dehumanized as sexual objects, things, or commodities; enjoying pain or humiliation or rape; being tied up … injury, torture, shown as filthy or inferior; bleeding, bruised, or hurt in a context that makes these conditions sexual” (Brison, 378-379).
56% of divorce cases in the United States have reported the cause of divorce as one member of the couple having an unhealthy addiction for pornographic websites ("Pornography Statistics: Annual Report" 2014). The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes pornography as "movies, pictures, magazines, etc., that show or describe naked people or sex in a very open and direct way in order to cause sexual excitement." In a recent study of dating or married couples, 73% of males reported to using pornography at some level (ranging from low to high frequency use), while only 32% of females reported using pornography (Poulsen, Bubsy & Galovan, 2013 p. 73). Pornography has highly addictive qualities, which are often dismissed as "human nature," and is the leading cause of unhappiness leading to divorce in marriages. The ease of access to online pornography makes this worse because it is much more difficult to quit because of how easy it is to access it. If someone is addicted to drugs, they would need to find a supply if they were tempted to relapse. With an online pornography addiction, all someone needs is a computer to relapse into their pornography addiction. This form of addiction is not seen as an issue because of its dismissal as “human nature.” Online Pornography addiction negatively affects the addicted party's serious relationship or marriage, the addicted person's partner, and the addicted party themselves.
Pornography is material that is sexual in content for the intent of arousal and stimulation. Such material includes; movies, magazines, photographs and books. In most instances, the desire for pornography is pleasure. Pornography is a stimulus that creates arousal for the purpose of stimulation and as such, sensation from climax that results in pleasure. As an individual views such material, he may view repeated sexual themes, perhaps the same genre of pornography or the same actors. Explicit pornography is considered; bondage, discipline, sadism, masochism (BDSM), dominance and submission (Bonomi, 2013), strangling asphyxiation, humiliation, violence and rape. Desensitization is a “neurological process that results in a reduced or loss of physiological response following prolonged or repetitive stimulation (Wang & Xiulan. 2005).” This occurrence takes place due to a decrease in a neurotransmitter, resulting in a decreased response to a stimulus (Nairr...
Meanwhile it contains some arguments, counterarguments and refutations. The first argument is discussing pornography is related to rape sometimes, the second argument is pornography may effects women normally, and the third argument is about the impact of pornography to its users. First of all, pornography seems to be linked to rape because a number of sex crimes a after the activity of watching adult videos and magazines. Most sex offenders play a stimulus reaction by pornographic scene and involved action to give vent.
As you can see, this conceptualization offers a range of relatively distinct but also interacting explanations for why those who sexually offend against children do what they do. Similar to and building upon other multifactor theories, the Pathways Model takes into account a number of characteristics or risk factors that appear to be common among sex offenders. What seems to set it apart from some of the other etiological theories is that it more fully considers the heterogeneity of offenders, rather than assuming that all offenders follow the same or very similar path to offending, and does so in a way that it makes more clear what some of the differing implications for interventions might be. And that further emphasizes one of the critical messages of this training—that one size does not fit all.
... between exposure to pornography and commission of violence, but this research was conducted in 1993 which is now outdated. Another point, which she emphasized, was that a greater availability of sexually explicit material seems to correlate with higher indices of gender equality. But when the sexually explicit material shows the subordination of women or women presented as sexual object who enjoy pain or humiliation, how can they be equal as men when the men are shown as the gender that enjoys subordinating women. (Strossen,550). Feminist author Diana Russell notes in her book Rape and Marriage the correlation between deviant behavior (including abuse) and pornography. She also found that pornography leads men and women to experience conflict, suffering, and sexual dissatisfaction.
To some, pornography is nothing more than a few pictures of scantily clad Women in seductive poses. But pornography has become much more than just Photographs of nude women. Computer technology is providing child molesters and child pornographers with powerful new tools for victimizing children. Pornography as "the sexually explicit depiction of persons, in words or images, Sexual arousal on the part of the consumer of such materials. No one can prove those films with graphic sex or violence has a harmful effect on viewers. But there seems to be little doubt that films do have some effect on society and that all of us live with such effects.
