One might ask what is nonverbal communication and why would this have any effect on me? Nonverbal Communication overrides verbal communication in day to day interactions. Nonverbal communication is defined as communication without words. There are many different types of nonverbal communication, whether it be facial expression, touching, eyes, and tone of voice. Also one might include the less obvious nonverbal cues such as dress, posture, and spatial distance between two or more individuals.
Facial expressions can be anything that one can convey through expression. Disgust, sadness, and happiness just to name a few. Disgust can be shown with a scrunched nose and lowered eyebrows. Sadness can be shown by down cast eyes, frown of mouth, and …show more content…

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” (NKJV) The eyes help individuals determine whether the person they are talking to is actually interested. Americans when having conversations with one another, tend to not make eye contact. In the beginning after eye contact is established the eyes tend to wander. This does not mean that this conversation is disinteresting or the person does not want to be a part of said conversation this just shows that Americans tend to wander. Deaf culture prefers when conversing that eye contact be maintained, when eye contact is lost conversation tends to diminish. Eye contact among a huge group of people is hard to accomplish. When public speaking to a large group its best to make eye contact with people in the back of the room to make sure that they remain engaged in what the speaker is trying to say. Otherwise, they tend to feel as if they are not being spoken to directly and therefore they tend to lose interest in what is being talked
