The Negative Effects Of Global Warming's Effect On The Planet Earth

3008 Words7 Pages

As many people know the presence of man on the planet Earth for hundreds of years has greatly affected the atmosphere and climate of the planet, and usually for the worst. Climate change and pollution has plagued the human race for years. Scientists have confirmed that the climate is indeed getting warmer every year; this is a phenomena known as global warming and it has negative effects on the environment. Pollution which is also increasing because of the demanding needs of humans also has negatively affected the environment. While many regard Global warming as a myth, others believe it will prove devastating to our environment if nothing is done. The effects of global warming are massive and they affect a wide variety of things. For example, …show more content…

As CO2 rises more heat will be stored in the ocean and it will hold less carbon causing currents to slow down, and the ocean will become less effective in moving carbon into the atmosphere. Some biology life such as microbes, use carbon for photosynthesis just like plants do on land. When there is an increase of CO2, carbon presence in the ocean begins to diminish. And the acidity in the water begins to increase which will cause a decrease in the availability of calcium carbonate which is needed by shells and exoskeletons of small marine life species. Carbonate concentration has decreased by 16% and our economy and health are tied to organisms dependent on carbonate concentration. This could in turn affect businesses as some marine life are dependent on carbon concentration by killing off something small such as shrimp or krill or something else that other fish feed on may cause a disturbance in the food chain thus killing off more fish and ultimately affecting businesses and people’s lives. In fact the problem is so urgent that Cheryl A. Logan writing on behalf of the American Institute of Biological Sciences says that “To avoid substantial damage to ocean ecosystems, deep and rapid reductions of global CO2 emissions by at least 50% by 2050, and much more thereafter are needed”
