Renewable energy and its contribution to the environment
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
Climatologists predict that if we humans do not change our ways, Earth will cross the climate danger threshold by the year 2036. This threshold marks the highest level of pollution that can be reached before irreversible damage is done to Earth’s atmosphere. The release of pollutants within Earth’s atmosphere is mainly linked to our immense dependance on fossil fuels, and our inability to convert to green energy sources. This is why I write to my fellow citizens of Dubuque and Mayor Roy D. Buol, in hopes that we can set an example for other cities, and become 100% dependant on renewable energy sources. As inhabitants of Earth it is our duty to protect it and make sure it remains a habitable place to live for future generations. But, at the rate we use fossil fuels today, it is looking like we may not be able to ensure a safe future for the coming generations. Using fossil fuels to generate power releases harmful pollutants into the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide. These pollutants slowly deteriorate our ozone layer, but the ozone layer is what filters UV rays from the sun, making them less intense before they reach the ground. If this level of the atmosphere were to …show more content…
If you have ever taken a drive through Iowa, then you have surely noticed the immense amount of windmills littering the farmers fields. Having wind mills implemented within our fields will allow us to utilize our second source of renewable energy, wind power. These farmers or landowners are paid by electricity companies to have the windmills on their land, and often times they no longer have to pay an electricity bill. These large scale windmills are not accessible to people who live within the city, but there is much smaller versions obtainable for these people. These smaller windmills can be used within the city, and can help cut a single home’s electricity bill, by simply producing the electricity they would instead be
With concern over global warming growing, people are starting to turn a more serious eye toward cleaner sources of energy. Instead of solar power making a comeback as the ideal form, we are seeing a growth in the use of wind power. Wind farms are beginning to crop up all around the country. This new trend has gathered significant attention. Questions are being raised concerning the effects wind farms may have, from critics and supporters alike. Michelle Nijhuis, in the article “Selling the Wind” discusses the arguments on behalf of and in opposition to the increasing use of wind power, addressing what the consequences may be on the United States.
With every passing year, human beings are emitting more and greenhouse gases than the previous year. The world right now is at a stage where there is no time to look back and wait for things to happen on its own. We should try everything possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions so that enough opportunities are made available for future generation and there is scope for sustainable development by proper utilization and not by exploitation. The poorest of all should have hope for a better future.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Before a person can tackle handling the concept of global warming, they first must analyze the true definition of what it is. Climate change periodic modification of Earth’s climate brought about as a result of changes in the atmosphere as well as interactions between the atmosphere and various other geologic, chemical, biological, and geographic factors within the Earth 's system. (britannica) Since all 196 countries in the world have to share the oxygen and carbon dioxide, we all should take a part in the responsibility of taking care of earth. On November 6, 2012 President Obama said that we want our children to live in a world without the destructive power of a warming planet. The biggest challenge we face is not only saving a warming
Every day the world we live in dies a little more. By this I mean the physical world is gradually being damaged by the way we treat it. We need to start looking at the kind of environment we are creating and decide if it is a place that we want our children and the future generations to have to suffer though. If your answer to the previous scenario is no then you should really consider what we can do to make the future a better place. One of the best ways that I can think of is by focusing on the advancements of green energy resources. By doing this we will not only reduce pollution produced by burring fossil fuels but mainly we will be able to reduce the amount of pollution produced from the gathering of them though means like fracking.
With new diesel technology in today’s world, I think people should consider trying or using new diesel cars and trucks as well as the use of clean diesel.
From human entered industrial civilization era. Our human beings are always finding more and more fuels to support increasing requirement. When we are enjoying the convenience brought from fossil fuels, we should think about climate change caused by fossil fuels at the same time. “Global temperature has risen by about 0.6ºC over the last 100 years, and 1998 was the single warmest year in the 142-year global instrumental record.” (Hulme et al. 2002) Fossil fuels were born to release energy; meanwhile they produce carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, sulfur oxides, greenhouse gas, and oil leakage and so on. In 1952 the photochemical smog event in London had carried off over 4000 people’s lives. So many extremely serious events have made bad influences on human’s life. So we must take action to face a series of problems, in order to protect environment and ourselves.
Over the last two centuries, humanity has become increasingly reliant on fossil fuels. Over that time, the consequences of constantly burning fossil fuels have accumulated into a threat to industrialized cities. The burning of fossil fuels causes acid rain to shower on cities and ecosystems around the world, tormenting their inhabitants. The increasingly deadly pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels has caused the deaths of many people around the world by causing respiratory problems. Not only has the pollution worsened, but the supply of fossil fuels is not limitless – as humanity’s reliance increases the supply decreases, and that is all the more reason to break humanity’s reliance on fossil fuels. Fossil fuels should be replaced with cleaner alternatives because fossil fuels cause environmental hazards, are non-renewable, and are detrimental to human health.
The world in which we live in at the moment has become poisonous. It has been poisoned by the human species’ daily survival activities. Humans around the world have taken for granted the daily impact that we have on the natural world. It all boil down to each and every breath that we take. Each and every breath that we exhale releases poisonous chemicals into the atmosphere. Until when our existence becomes absent, the world will remain poisoned.
Climate change. The two letter word so feared by scientists, so ignored by the average human being. What is it that makes scientists fear this phrase so much? For the concept of “climate change” has been seen throughout the history of the earths existence. For centuries, our climate has fluctuated through increasing and decreasing amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide and climatic cycles. So what is the big deal? The problem, and the reason why this concept instills fear directly into the core of scientists is the rate at which over the past 1,300 years atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have risen. This unnatural increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide, due to the immense amount of anthropogenic burning of oil and coal, affects the transfer
The effects of using fossil fuels are starker than their timelines. Humans release approximately two billion metric tons of pollution annually, mostly from the burning of coal, oil, and natural gas; this pollution is destroying our environment and the ozone layer. Ozone and smog damage forests, crops, and other plant life, and reduces visibility. Other pollutants have the same
It is unfortunate that within the past 100 years our worlds' economy has driven itself into a deep hole with the reliance on a "black gold" called oil. Since its discovery, it has been purified to produce many different forms of energy such as light, gasoline and more. Since technology has enabled mankind to discover more capable methods of transportation, mankind has exploited its power over nature and produced machines such as the combustion engine. In combustion engine's, oil explodes to move machinery, and emits a very toxic byproduct called CO2. Carbon is incredibly dangerous to the earth's atmosphere, and erodes huge holes in the ozone layer of our earth. This erosion causes global warming and climate change that is permanent and irreversible. The impact of global warming will not only ...
Our planet is suffering from severe pollution, which ranges from contaminated air, water and soil as well. Humans are doing nothing to reduce the amount of pollution that is harming our earth. To understand how pollution works first you must understand that there are different types of pollution. The most common types of pollution and the ones that I will be focusing on which are the ones doing the most harm to our planet are air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination and littering. In order to help out and reduce pollution in our planet people need to be more aware of what these problems are and about the severe damages that they are causing our planet. Before industrialization really jumped into place and had an effect on large cities, nature had its own way of cleaning up its own air and itself. Wind scattered gases, rain washed many substances and the rest dissolved into the ground; while plants absorbed carbon dioxide and made it into oxygen. With big cities growing more every time and with more towns that were becoming more industrialized a lot of more waste began to be released into the environment and the atmosphere and soon this was more than enough for nature to handle. In order to stop and reduce pollution people need to understand the damage that it is causing our environment and our planet as well. People need to be more aware of how they can help out and do their part in reducing these problems that are causing our planet to die slowly with people not even noticing it.
Even if the reason of climate change may be the natural cycles, we humans are the major determinant to it. The huge amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is causing the climate change and this amount is rising day by day, as a result of our actions. Greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, generally absorb and emit the heat in the atmosphere to keep the Earth’s climate habitable. However, as we continue to burn fossil fuels, this habitable Earth’s temperature will blow up, and as a result, some species will die out due to various problems which are caused by climate change. According to EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the most obvious consequence of climate change is the rising sea levels, which will cause some seashore habitats to become unavailable to live to its species.
