As competition rises, ingredients are added to the food. As the ingredients are added to the food, autism rates change. As autism rates change, so do children’s lives. The causes and effects of autism spectrum disorder all begin with fast food and it drags out until autism is gone forever. Every year doctors diagnose thousands of adults and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Due to the growing awareness of autism and recent developments in technology, scientists and doctors can now discover and observe the effects of autism on society, and people. Starting with its discovery, researchers have been able to diagnose people more effectively. Doctors are beginning to discover what causes this disorder, and are currently trying to find ways to prevent and treat it. Many places have opened their doors to people with this disorder, creating autistic friendly environments where people are patient and understanding. Schools have also become accommodating to autistic children and adults. Autism also puts great strain on family and home lives.
Most child dream of being superheroes. But Christine Enockson wanted to be a real world superhero, a teacher. Living in a small Wisconsin town, it was rare for there to be a child with special needs. This passion led her to decide to be a foster parent. Throughout her life, Chris has made a difference in the lives of many children, including her own. Even though Chris has faced many hardships in her life, she continues to stay positive because of her faith. Chris’s help with special needs children and foster care have helped her faith cultivate and she is currently inspiring others
In 2008, there were more than 1,977,000 deaths that were caused by preventable risk factors. The top 3 causes of death in the United States are diseases of the heart, malignant neoplasms (cancer), and chronic lower respiratory diseases. All these diseases are preventable. People need to start paying more attention to what they’re eating, exercising more, giving up unhealthy behaviors and taking care of our mental health.
Understanding autism, which is professionally known as Autism Spectrum Disorder, otherwise known as (ADS) can be a difficult task, especially for someone who is not trained in helping persons with disabilities. The first person to discover autism was a child psychiatrist, Dr. Leo Kanner in 1943. He names the spectrum disorder after the Greek word autos, meaning of or for oneself, due to the way the child display social avoidance. Many doctors’ believed in the past that autism was caused by the way the mother not caring for her child properly or ignoring him or her. There was also a time when it was thought to be caused by certain environmental stresses that cause neurological issues within the brain. Autism is one of the most misunderstood
A mental illness is a medical condition that disrupts a person's thinking, feeling, moods, ability to relate to others and daily functioning. One form of a mental illness is called Autism also known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This is a spectrum disorder meaning it can affect everyone differently. Autism is a complex developmental disability that primarily becomes visible during the first three years of life and is the outcome of a neurological disorder that impacts the normal functioning of the brain. Thus, impacting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. “Autism which is also termed as autism spectrum disorders or ASD is a wide range or spectrum of brain disorders that is usually noticed in young children that decreases the individual's ability to communicate and relate emotionally to others. This disability may range from mild to severe.” (Charman) Both children and adults with autism typically show difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and play activities. Where did the world of Autism come from? This term has been around for a little over a hundred years and stems from the Greek word “autos” which means self. The word gives a run down of how a person is removed from social interactions thus being secluded. The word was first used in 1911 by a psychiatrist while referring to a group of symptoms of schizophrenia. About 30 years later researchers from the United States started using the term to describe children with social or emotional problems. Autism is one the fastest growing mental illnesses in the United States. It “is a disability that can make daily activities difficult. Historically, mental health issues and homelessness have been viewed as separate issues which have been individually funded by states and cities. As more is learned about the statistical link and the apparent connection between the lack of mental health services and homelessness, more attention is being commanded to address this issue as one.
Children with special needs in the United States are being underprivileged at a massive rate. More schools across the country are lowering their special education funding as well as eliminating programs altogether. It is a problem that has to be changed now, or children with special needs may not be as educated as they could possibly be in the future. Special needs education needs to be more funded, more involved, and implemented in more schools and universities around the country. Special education is vital and necessary to children in this country because they deserve the same educational privileges and advantages of being educated in their country just as children without special needs do. Children with special needs who are educated would
Autism is most common and most missed diagnosed disease. Autism is considered as a spectrum because each person have their own personal trait and characteristic. “Diagnosing autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be difficult, since there is no medical test, like blood test, to diagnose the disorders. They look at the child’s behavior to make a diagnosis” (www.cdc.gov). Some parents are in denial with this disease and will not get the early intervention that could help. We need to educate as much as possible about autism. Autism is a lifelong condition and with early detection, intervention and therapy. This can help to increase skills and abilities to help children grow and reduce the symptoms cause by this
Special Education is a wonderful program built to help children who may need extra assistance. It is very important for the guardian to stay in the loop and be kept up to date with everything. Referral, Evaluation, Individualized Education Program (IEP), Placement, and Annual Reviews are the steps that carry a child and guardian through the special education program. The fact that special education can be free to families is an amazing thing, because a child should be able to get the help they need to excel in school. There is no doubt that the child should be kept in the classroom with nondisabled children. Inclusion is vital to a disabled child’s education.
Many people do not know the effort and time consuming it really takes for parents to take care of a mentally and/or physically disabled child. That is why we need to do something to help this families feel incorporated into society rather than left out. As stated in the article “The Language of Prejudice,” written by Gordon Allport, labels distracts our attention from concrete reality. Many places such as restaurants, do not have the proper architectural layout for families to bring along their disabled child and eat as a family because the restaurants tables are often to close together, making it impossible for a wheelchair to pass, or making it impossible for a waiter to pass by to deliver the food. An excellent example would have to be the
Down Syndrome or Trisomy 21 is an extra copy of chromosomes 21; healthy babies have two copies, while down syndrome babies have three copies. Blood tests that pregnant women get have sparked a debate about aborting unborn babies with down syndrome because the parents “can’t handle it” or “dont know how to care for a baby with a disability.”
Mental disorders are rapidly becoming more common with each new generation born in the world. Currently, nearly one in two people suffer from some form of depression, anxiety, or other mental health problem at some point in their lives (Editor). With so many people suffering from their mental illnesses, steps have been taken in order to get help needed for these people but progress has been slow. In the medical world, hospitals are treating those with physical problems with more care than those with mental problems. Prescription drugs can only do so much helping the mentally ill go through their daily lives and more should be done to help those who need more than medicine to cope with their illness. Mental health should be considered just as important as physical health because of how advanced physical healing is, how the public reacts to those with mental illness, and due to the consequences that could happen if the illness is not correctly helped.

Not only is Autism a subject that people don’t know enough information about, but it’s a subject that people don’t take seriously. Like many other diseases throughout the world, scientists don’t have a direct cause or cure for the disease. Although they have narrowed the causes down to two main factors, people with children diagnosed with Autism and also people who have no knowledge of Autism at
