Climate is the composite or generally prevailing weather conditions of a region, as temperature, air pressure, humidity, precipitation, sunshine, cloudiness, and winds, throughout the year, averaged over a series of years (Dictionary.com). The atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases, a gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiation, e.g., carbon dioxide CO2 and Methane CH4, have increased since the pre-industrial era due to human activities. Primarily, this is due to the combustion of fossil fuels as well as land-use and land-cover change (Gitay, Suarez, Watson, & Dokken, 2002). These anthropocentric revolutions and natural forces have contributed to changes in the Earth’s climate. Environmental change processes include: warming of land and ocean surface temperatures, changes in …show more content…

Plant responses often reflect the indirect effects of climate on soil nutrients and moisture as much as the direct effects on plant physiology itself (Dukes, et al., 2009). Processes such as habitat loss, modification and fragmentation, and the introduction and spread of non-native species will be affected by the impacts of climate change (Gitay, Suarez, Watson, & Dokken, 2002). A realistic projection of the future state of the Earth’s ecosystems would also need to take into account human land and water use patterns, which will greatly affect the ability of organisms to respond to climate change via migration (Gitay, Suarez, Watson, & Dokken,
