The Effectiveness of Outdoor Education Provision
For this assignment I am going to identify the principles and benefits
that outdoor education has to offer.
After taking the time to think about what a principle and a benefit is
I have come to the conclusion that a principle is the ethnics and
morals and a benefit is the outcome and something you gain such as a
new skill or completion of a task.
People provide outdoor education for many reasons. The principles of a
national skills centre are as followed.

Ø To train coaches further
Ø To allow clients to gain qualifications

Other benefits of outdoor education are your own personal development
by learning new skills and to be able to manage various tasks out of
the normal work place or environment. Outdoor education offers a sense
of achievement and can also help with social behavioural problems and
corporate development.
My next part of this assignment is that I am going to describe and
explain the goals and principles for three different outdoor education
providers.
The three providers I have chosen are as followed.

I am firstly going to tell you about Plas Menai. It is the National
Watersports Centre located in Wales.
Plas Menai try to deliver the ultimate day out making sure that it is
a quality, fun and rewarding experience for everyone.
I believe that geography is a significant subject in the primary national curriculum because it supports children to develop an understanding of the places in the world and the diverse range of people who live in it. For me, this is an important aspect to learning because it enables children to be globally aware. According to the DFES (Great Britain. Department for Education and Skills, 2005a) education plays a vital role in helping children to recognise their contribution and responsibilities as citizens of the global community and equips them with skills to make informed decisions and take responsible actions. In a recent geography seminar, I collaboratively planned a lesson for KS2, involving children taking a visit to Seaton, a local beach in Cornwall to compare and contrast the area through photographs after recent storm damage. The Royal Geographical Society (2014) suggests through the use of enquiry-based fieldwork, children can gain first hand experiences of physical processes. As a child, many individuals have free time where they can participate in leisurely activities often. Known as the preparation phase, leisure at this point is usually where a child forms relationships and set goals they wish to achieve in the future. This differs drastically from the establishment phase, where an individual is usually too busy to participate in leisure as much. At this phase, leisure is viewed as purposive, such as taking their child to a museum. The focus is generally not focused on just the individual themselves but rather on acting upon their previous goals to successfully reach them. The final phase is known as the reintegration phase where an individual reflects on the course their life has taken due to the preparation and establishing they have done. At each stage, there are constraints and facilitators that affect what an individual may do as leisure. However, there are other cultural and social factors that affect this as well. Ever since ancient times, an individual’s economic status is a factor that has affected their participation in certain leisure activities that they can afford or not. Today, this still occurs as some people can afford to do activities for leisure while others can not. The purpose of therapeutic recreation is to enable all individuals to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful experiences in recreation and leisure. In this paper the definition of therapeutic recreation will be discussed as well as what should be included in the definition and what should be rejected. This definition will mainly focus on health and use the Health Promotion Model to further explain my choice to focus on health and well-being. I will also be discussing the importance of inclusion in therapeutic recreation for different learning styles in many environments, and the significance of diversity in the community and what we hope to achieve by being fully inclusive.
Economic benefits for local and national economy as well as some less tangible benefits play a major role when investments are made on bicycle, pedestrian, and open space facilities. Some of the economic benefits from such infrastructures come from increased retail sales, conservation and creation of jobs, reduced health care costs, and real estate appreciation. The facilities discussed also ease road traffic and lead to a better preservation of roads. Investing in these facilities also improves the air quality, preserves carbon-based energy, and aids in creating more active communities. I will review five articles that will quantify each benefit and translate them into economic value.
For hundreds of years it has been recognized that not all learning takes place in the classroom. Students mental and social development also occurs outside the classroom in athletics, music, and clubs. No matter what club the student is involved in, he/she fosters organizational, interpersonal, communication, planning, critical thinking, financing, and evaluation skills. A club gives students the opportunity to combine components of their mental and social development into personal action. These students have opportunities to test their skills and talents in different situations. Students will always work together to set goals, develop action plans for achieving those goals and implement those plans. Doing so, students could develop and maintain working relationships and friendships. The soul of a club is the students, but it also consists of many things that happen behind the scenes.
I will complete a face to face interview with a practitioner in my setting to get their views on outdoor play. This will be completed by 16th March 2016
With more technology to feel the gap of physical labor for humans and poor nutrition, obesity is rising and people are not living up to their potential. Children have been spending more time indoors with a screen in their face and a controller in their hand. Lack of physical activity not only causes obesity, but lack of brain power and achievement. Children and their families need to be taught the proper ways of how to be healthy in physical education classes to maintain their health across their life span. By incorporating in more lifelong knowledge about health into our physical education systems, obesity rates will drop and students will do much better in school.

In addition, leisure education helps to develop the participant leisure repertoire skills and interest in leisure activities and a great social network of friends. It gives the participants the opportunity to effectively and successfully utilize their leisure time to be actively involved in leisure activities in their homes or community setting. For incorporating leisure education into a recreation program first I would conduct an assessment to get a sense of the participant’s leisure interest, past and present experiences, barriers to leisure, skills etc. Based on the information gathered, I would plan goals and objectives for the participant and the n implement this plan. After which, I would conduct an evaluation to see if the goals and objectives were met as well as which ones may need a different plan of

Experiential education first immerses learners in an experience and then encourages reflection about the experience to develop new skills, new attitudes, or new ways of thinking.” (1994, p.5). Learning through experience is something that each one of us do in our daily lives, often on a subconscious level. Many teenagers, however do not realize or take advantage of travel opportunities provided for them and the influence travel can have on their lives. There are many programs out there that give all teens the chance to travel and experience the world firsthand regardless of a family’s income. These travels will influence the growing mind by helping them to understand other cultures without the distant feeling that these places do not concern them. Although it may seem scary to some parents to let their child travel to far off places, teens need the exposure to broaden their knowledge and horizons. More teenagers should travel because traveling abroad not only teaches them more about other cultures, but more about themselves, who they are and who they want to become.

Last year, McDonald’s served 69 million customers a day (“Our Story”). These people are at home watching TV on their couches and eating this fast food. I think this is a huge factor to why obesity is at a high. The lack of exercise is a global pandemic. Only three out of ten Americans exercise regularly (“Information”). But for many students, the only exercise they may get is at school in a PE class. I feel like PE is a great class, but gets overlooked as a waste of time. The importance of teaching physical education is taken for granted. We can attain healthy habits, get exercise, and have fun while doing it. I believe physical education classes should be maintained and emphasized more than they are now. Most people view it as just an easy class but in reality, it could benefit our generation in the long run, and help make for a healthier future.

Informal education has for a long time been considered very controversial in the education world and looked upon as just for entertainment. Informal education is commonly defined as learning that takes outside of formal school settings. Informal education can be things such as field trips to science centers, aquariums, museums, zoos, or planetariums. All of the following places are considered to be "informal settings" because they are all outside the classroom area. An educational curator at a small museum in Jackson Hole, Wyoming is as much an informal educator as a director of educational programs for the Smithsonian Institution. Often informal educators are retired K-12 teachers that have received additional training and have therefore been thrust into a more prominent role to teaching the nation’s students about mathematics and science. Many people look at field trips as pointless and unbeneficial to students at any age. But many will argue that informal education is only helpful when students have prior knowledge of the subject from formal education before going out of the classroom to learn. The role of prior knowledge in learning is considered of utmost importance in designing effective educational programs. Informal education is very common with science subjects. Most students cannot understand scientific principles by reading out of a book because textbooks and paper handouts can be very dry and boring. During my experience simulation, I walked along paths in the forest by my house and took in every detail that nature provides. I would look at a fallen tree and remember being at my cottage climbing a falling tree and wanting to hang off it. I saw all the leaves changing colour and remembered cleaning up the grounds of my family farm and then wanting to jump into the colourful pile.
