The Effect of the Great Depression on Hitler's Power There is no simple answer as to why Hitler became chancellor in January 1933. There are a number of causal factors which all contributed to his rise into power. Any of the factors, on its own, however, would not have resulted in his appointment. They are all linked in a web of causation and if any of the factors were missing, Hitler would not have been appointed chancellor. Of the factors I would say that the Great Depression was the most important. The Treaty of Versailles only partly helped Hitler become chancellor. On 28 June 1919, Germany signed the Treaty with the allies, losing 10% of her land. The German army was reduced to 100,000 men and Germany had to pay reparations of £6,600 million. Hitler blamed the Treaty for Germany's problems. When Germany failed to pay a reparation instalment in 1922, French and Belgian troops entered German soil and seized goods. The German government ordered passive resistance but workers needed to be paid. The government printed money and hyperinflation set in. During this crisis in Germany, caused indirectly by the Treaty, when Hitler tried to seize power he was unsupported. Therefore the Treaty of Versailles, on its own, was not a reason why Hitler rose to power. After 1929, the Great Depression acted as a catalyst, igniting the German people's anger for the Treaty of Versailles and it then became a factor in Hitler's rise to power. Another reason why Hitler was able to rise to power was due to the failure of the Munich Putsch of November 1923. At his trial, Hitler gained enormous publicity, which made him well known. He spent only nin... ... middle of paper ... ... office before he would do whatever he said. Hitler seemed to want what he wanted. Hindenburg agreed and Hitler became chancellor. The government they headed was a coalition. There were twelve ministers altogether and only three were Nazis. Von Papen and Hindenburg thought that Hitler could be controlled and drowned out by non-Nazis, but they were wrong. Without the Great Depression or his oratorical skills it is very unlikely that Hitler would have become chancellor. All of the above factors contributed to Hitler's appointment as chancellor and he would not have risen to power had one been absent. The main reason why Hitler became chancellor was that shareholders panicked in a country 4000 miles away. Had the Wall Street Crash been removed, however, it is almost certain Hitler would never have become chancellor.

The Great Depression was among the most important factors in creating the climate that allowed for Hitler’s rise to power, and his eventual beginning of World War II. The Great Depression, in addition to losing World War I, created a German populace that was humiliated. This allowed Hitler, with his soaring nationalist rhetoric, to take win a large share of the electorate in the early 1930’s. This is because Hitler appealed to their humiliation and promised to restore Germany to his past glory. Thus, the Great Depression was absolutely essential in making Germany into an aggressor. However, it was unimpacted by the Treaty of Versailles. In fact, the Great Depression originated in the United States, which did not even sign the Treaty of Versailles. It may not be clear why the Great Depression, which began in and most impacted the United States, caused Germany, and not more negat...
On the 28th of June 1919, a peace treaty, also known as the treaty of Versailles, was signed, ending the First World War. The treaty had a humiliating effect causing great resentment. Germany had no choice but to accept the terms of the treaty, which later had a considerable impact on the countries running. The negotiations for this treaty took six months, at the Paris peace conference. Germany was forced to accept all responsibility for causing the war, making substantial territorial concessions along with disarming, which reduced their army to 100,000 men, no tanks or U-boats and the Rhineland, which previously belonged to Germany, was to be demilitarised. They also had reperations of £6.6 billion to pay back.Germany then lost all conections with it’s overseas colonies and could never again unite with Austria. They lost a large area of teritory to Belgium, France and Poland, this was a significant loss to Germany as these areas were rich in mineral wealth. This would put a strain on Germany’s ability to re pay the allies.
Hitler was superb at convincing people to believe everything he said. He promised the people a roast in every pot, security, and many more things. By promising the people security that meant that he would keep them all safe and that he can do a better job than anyone else. Adolf Hitler increased in support from bankers and industrialists. So, pretty much he had most of the people who had higher power on his side durning this time period. The the united States stock market crasedd in October 1929 unemployment in Germany quickly rose to over six million. which resulted in the death of many innocent people and numerous Jews. Hitler became leader of the Nazi party and chancellor of Germany. For example,’ ‘Hitler was never elected, he came second, until President Hindenburg was forced to appoint Hitler as chancellor in 1933.’’ (www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/adolf-hitler). This supports one way of how he rose to power and did everything he did.

another factor possibly could be the economic collapse of germany during the great depression and the lack of support the Weimar republic showed. It was unable to deal with Germanys problems and this set Hitler in an ideal position to rise to power. The nazi party became more and more popular and by 1932 they had 230 seats in the Reichstag. Hitler's opportunity to do a political deal came about during the great depression when there was a collapse of trade and the death of stresseman. The people of germany were desperate due to the increasing rate of unemployment and the increasing political instability: they were desperate and needed a strong government.
Adolf Hitler was a tyrant leader in Germany. He was the head of the Nazi party and his aggressive foreign policy is considered to be a large factor attributing to World War II. The great depression in Germany created opportunity for Hitler. Germany was suffering and the people were willing to entertain any different options to make life better (Wikipedia ). Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany, giving him power over the legislative and executive branches of the government. This power was the beginning of his empire. In 1921, Germany was required to pay 182 billion gold marks. Germany paid very little of the reparations, the nation had been asked to pay an enormous sum. To add, the conditions of the Treaty stated that Germany must pay the reparations within 30 years. However, Adolf Hitler came to power and stopped the payments, thus never complying with the treaty. Germany’s reluctance to pay the World War I reparations was mainly due to Germany’s utter humiliation.
The Great Depression in Germany was a very significant event and effected all of Germany but mostly for the working class, it was a very significant event during the recovery period in Germany, because the crash in the stock made it harder for people to get jobs, by food and even live in their homes.
