Many may think that Macbeth is the driving force of the murders in the play Macbeth, but it is clearly Lady Macbeth that pushes these murders to happen. Although Macbeth first brought up the idea of killing King Duncan, it is Lady Macbeth who actually pushes and convinces Macbeth to go through with the plan. She first says to Macbeth, “The king is coming, and he’s got to be taken care of” (1.5.58-59). This is the first time she shows her desire to have Duncan killed, also proving that she is determined to do what needs to be done. Of course when Macbeth says, “Now i am decided, and I will exert every muscle in my body to commit this crime” (1.7.79-80), it seems as though he has always been confident in this decision.
