The prevalence of serial killer’s date back to mid-1970’s in the midst of catastrophic events. Disguised as charming and intelligent human beings yet very twisted in nature and bear pernicious tendencies in the soul. The exaggerated descriptions of serial killers in popular culture play a mitigating role in how society views serial killers in the 21st century, it has blurred truth in the eyes of many individuals. In most cases, investigated by the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) serial killers usually hold victim’s captive for day, months, even years, and torture them physically or emotionally. Murder looked upon as a “crime of passion” that results from emotions of rage and jealously. In a twisted turn of fate, individuals are more captivated to gain an insight of the killer’s background than to know of his or her heinous actions. Unfortunately, serial killers appeal to people not in the most moral way but in an ambiguous, fascinating manner through the work of words, actions, and personality traits. A stereotypical description consists of psychopathic tendencies, lack of empathy, and a complex conscious. However, what we fail to notice is not every serial killer is intelligent or dark in nature, most appear normal the most petrifying characterization of a serial murderer. The “Psyche” of a killer is broke down into categories: 1) Visionary type who kills to correspond to voice or vision of a specific person to destroy .2) Hedonistic type who kills only for the thrill, to seek pleasure of well-being. 3) Mission-Orientated who kills to eliminate a set of groups e.g. Prostitutes, Homosexuals, African Americans. 4) Lust type who kills just for sexual pleasure (Leyton). Serial killer figures such as Charlie Chop-off, Jack the Ripper, and Jack the Stripper targeted prostitutes by carrying out a mission-oriented persona, also never convicted of their callous crimes. Serial killers observe a group of people such as prostitutes or women as “tainted” and tend to purge of their beings to improve the world. Jack the Stripper’s mimicking approach to killing his victims was similar in comparison to Jack the Ripper because he too killed prostitutes and resided in London in the late 1900’s. Someone I would consider to be hedonistic would be Jeffrey Dahmer because he “cannibalized his victims and killed seventeen people, mostly homosexuals and Black Americans”
