The Digital Millennium Copyright Act
Signed into law by President Clinton on October 28, 1998, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) "was the foundation of an effort by Congress to implement United States treaty obligations and to move the nation's copyright law into the digital age." ("Executive Summary DMCA Report") While this seems a valid description of the law, perhaps a more accurate interpretation lies in the following statement: "The DMCA is a piece of legislation rushed through Congress by the entertainment industry lobbyists to protect its monopoly on commercially-developed digital content, cartels, price-fixing, and to maintain its status quo as the single entity that can direct what should be 'popular' or 'used' by the consumer masses." (Forno) Since its enactment, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act has been a controversial topic of debate and evaluating the relationship between United States copyright law and technological change is an ongoing, delicate issue for Congress.
"The DMCA is the product of the obligations of the United States to implement two international treaties proposed by the World Intellectual Property Organization. Both treaties provide that contracting states shall provide adequate legal protection and effective legal remedies against the circumvention of effective technological measures that are used by copyright owners with respect to their works." (Ottaviani C1) In addition, it exists for the purpose of advancing two goals, "to protect intellectual property rights in the modern digital environment and to promote continued growth and development of electronic commerce." (Ottaviani C1) The law was enacted perhaps with a valid purpose and with the interests of the people in mind, ho...

My group previously visited the Sheraton Hotel for our first interview with the front desk manager and it went very well. We decided to keep with the same hotel for our next interview, but due to a last-minute cancellation from the housekeeping manager we were not able to complete the interview. Due to this situation, I will be talking about a whole different hotel - G6 Hospitality. The name G6 Hospitality refers to the hotel brands – Motel 6 and Studio 6. I chose to G6 Hospitality because it is a well-known company that I wanted to know about more in-depth. From all my research, I have gained a lot of insight on what G6 Hospitality is all about.

Prior to the enactment of the Statute of Anne in 1710, the idea of copyright law, remained in the private law context, was in hands of profit-making stationers' company who only served to uphold their own interests in printing the materials. The Statute of Anne deeply affected the American law of copyright (Patterson, 1965) marking the beginning of copyright in a public context. Although the Statute itself had handful of loopholes like it only governed the printing of books and did not stipulate any means to identify the author, it was still often referred as the most authoritative legislation document because of its groundbreaking, historical impact on its protection to the natural and property rights of authors. In my essay, the Copyright Ordinance in Hong Kong will be illustrated to show that it succeeded the spirit of Statute of Anne, favoring the vigorous and prospering development creative work in our city. I would also suggest some ways to amend the Law in the modern circumstances where Web 2.0 Communication Tools reinvented the creative industry significantly.
In 1998, the United States Congress passed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Congress intended the bill to update US copyright laws to deal with digital media. They believed that digital media such as DVDs would be pirated in large numbers due to the fact that digital copies should appear exactly as the original. The solution was encryption and the DMCA was enacted to protect the copyright on digital media that is encrypted. A year later a program called DeCSS emerged, capable of decrypting the encryption of DVDs. The first challenge of the DMCA began, as the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) brought suit against individuals who were trafficking the software on the Internet. The ongoing court case raised serious issue about the Internet and the digital age, including topics such as HTML linking, source code as protected free speech, and the consumer's right to fair use.
Online copyrights violation is a very serious problem, but censorship is not its solution. Online censorship in SOPA can decrease the number of copyright infringement online but are not able to change the apparent ignorance of the rules of copyrights among publics. More importantly, freedom of speech is a basic human right that should not be compromised under any circumstance.
Because, internet today is enabling web-based suppliers an opportunity to meet a choice of different types of customers (Schoenbachler&Gordon, 2002) and has evolved as a feasible distribution channel for the firms that wish to expand their market penetration (Frazier, 1999; Frazier & Antia, 1995), reduce costs (Payne & Frow, 2004), increase revenues ( Kotler, 2000), spread risks, and strengthen customer loyalty (Kelly, 2002) through its use (Hobmeier, 2001).now most of the hotels are using the multiple channel strategy where they are in partnership more than one sales and distribution channel to serve the same target market and this has grown in the recent years. This is creating higher complexity for the hotel management as the data are coming from different partners. As customers, today are using multiple channels, it is almost certain that the future will remain to contain a mixture of even more complex channels (Balasubramanian , Raghunathan, & Mahajan, 2005). Since now, it is obvious that why hoteliers employing multiple channels including electronic ones, is no different; to maximise customer awareness and market share and reduce costs, this increasingly widespread trend to cooperate with new channels rather than stick to
Abstract: In 1995 Lance Rose and Esther Dyson wrote articles in Wired Magazine expressing polarized views on the future of copyright law and copyright infringement. This essay reviews those articles, analyzes each article's accuracy as defined by current trends years later.
On November 2009, Toyota was first recalled to correct a fix an out of place front driver’s seat floor mat, which was causing pedal entrapment. Two months later, Toyota was recalled again due some crashes that was led by floor mat incursion, also known as sticky accelerator pedal. Although Toyota had recalled these cars, Toyota admits not covering all cars and even stated that there was another reason for “sticky” gas pedals, according to an interview held by ABC news write Brian Ross. Recently, Toyota has paid a $1.2 billion deal/fine to the United States due to the safety problem. However, this may not be the end to Toyota’s intentional mistakes. Toyota is being used by someone or group, in order to attack Americans indirectly. The goal of this proposal is to disclose this person or group, and give a brilliant solution upon how to completely exterminate the problem. With the use of logos, the reader will be convinced upon who is indirectly attacking the United States with malfunctioning car. Pathos will be used to help readers understand the altitude of the problem and why action must be taken. Lastly, ethos is used throughout this proposal to help show readers how other proposals will not work against America’s mysterious enemy. With the help of the three rhetorical devices, this proposal can pass and American drivers can be protected in the future.
The Internet has most publicly impacted Copyright legislation and thus this essay will focus on it specifically. Copyrights are ìoriginal works of authorship in any tangible medium of expression, Öfrom which the work can be perceived, reproduced or otherwise communicated, either directly or withÖ aidî (Bird, p.86). Not only has its existence and understanding been heightened by the general public, but violations against it have ìincreased on the Internet as far as its use and what is being used.î (Medieval Romance, p.1) ìNever before has it been so easy to violate a copyright ownerís exclusive right to copy.î (Bird, p.86) The Internet has increased piracy, it has changed legislation for both creators and infringers, it is been the precursor for harsher punishments to violators, and it has clouded jurisdiction principles.
The Statute of Anne (the first modern form of copyright law) was introduced after the printing press was invented. Before this time, books would have to be hand written and for this reason they were ve...

Mental health is “a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” (World Health Organisation, 2014). It is often used as a substitute for mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and many others.
Mental illness is the condition that significantly impede with an individual’s emotional, cognitive or social abilities (Savy and Sawyer, 2009). According to (Savy and Sawyer, 2009) neurological, metabolic, genetic and psychological causes are contributing factors for various types of mental illness like depression, schizophrenia, substance abuse and progression of condition. An elaborate system known as DSM-IV-TR gives a classification system that acts to separate mental illness into diagnostic categories based on the description of symptoms of illness (Savy and Sawyer, 2009). The exact primarily causes of mental illness are complicated, however, it seems to occur in a psychologically and biologically prone individual, in the trigger of environmental and social stress (Elder, Evans and Nizette, 2007).
“One of the most important public policy debates today surrounds the issues of euthanasia and assisted suicide. The outcome of that debate will profoundly affect family relationships, interaction between doctors and patients, and concepts of basic ethical behavior. With so much at stake, more is needed than a duel of one-liners, slogans and sound bites.”
