Language development is very important, and these programs use the students’ native language as a tool to develop their second language. The time spent on each language and the quality of the language input play an important role in students’ language development. Tier one, two and three language strategies can be used to help the students meet their individual and group needs. Irby, Lara-Alecio, Mathes and Tong (2011) found out that students make the most progress in the language they are exposed to the most. When students were exposed to their native language for a greater amount of time (especially in the early years), they developed it and were able to transfer the skills and strategies as they learn their second language.
The article, written by Kimberly Tohill, discusses about the rise in popularity of podcasts and how they could be implicated in the classrooms to help students in the process of learning another language. Tohill talks about how learning a new language as people getting older becomes harder than when they were children. The reason being children are more exposed to the language while growing up through parents whose native language was not English. For students who attempt to learn another language as adolescents or older, one of their exposures to learning is through the classroom environment.
...speaker and the listener. The student can store often used responses, and prepare anticipated answers prior to situations where he will be meeting with those less familiar with his speech capabilities. By implementing this type of device, the student has become more confident and can communicate appropriately for a student his age. In this instance, the integration of technology into the learning environment may make a difference as to whether the student is employable or overlooked due to the inability to communicate well on the job.
Within this paper we will take a brief look at the Language Acquisition Principles and how they work on the behalf of ELL students. We will see how these principles can be applied within our own learning environment. There is much information from Walqui article that gives a brief overview of ELL students and how things looked in the past for these students. Now that times has change we will see how educators can make the requirements for ELL students better and more effective for teacher and students. Hopefully, as we look at ways of changing learning for our ELL students we must remember that every student learns differently. Even if you follow the principles from 1-8 we must keep in mind that everyone is unique and process things within their own time table.

Thanks to the ubiquitous nature of the internet in recent years, the world has become more connected each day. The increased use of the web on a daily basis has opened the doors for teachers to give their students the opportunity to connect with people around the globe without leaving their home country. The internet allows teachers to link their students with students of other cultures in distant countries by utilizing online communication tools. This kind of teaching method is called telecollaboration and has been employed using different formats in classes all over the globe with the aim of developing intercultural competence and foreign language skills, such as e-tandem, virtual online exchanges, collaborative online international learning, and many others. Since the first text message was sent in 1992 digital communication has affected our lives in both positive and negative ways. It has changed the way we run our lives, making us more efficient, more effective human beings. However many people claim that digital communication has had a purely negative impact on our civilisation. They believe the only product from digital communication is laziness. It is widely believed that the current generation is more lethargic then any other that came before it, this is apparently caused by digital communication. We have become lazier in two ways with our actions and our language. Both of these have apparently been caused by digital communication, because we no longer have to leave the house as we can get everything we need from the internet and as John Sutherland said in The New Statesman in 2008 “ It masks dyslexia, poor spelling and mental laziness. Texting is penmanship for illiterates.” This provokes laziness, as people no longer have to try to spell correctly or use correct grammar since spell check was invented. Others think that digital communication is the new, exciting way humans are adapting to their ever-changing surroundings for example Mallary Jean Tennore said in Poynter in March 2013 that “Language is always evolving, and technology is a healthy part of that evolution.” John Sutherland’s statement that the Internet masks certain parts of ourselves can be interpreted in a few different ways it can be used to say that people are to free on the internet as they don’t suffer any consequences due to anonymity or a ’mask’, it can mean how John Sutherland meant it as a way to hide illiteracy or it could be a mask that blocks tone, facial expressions and body language which is essentia...
