On average a given spot will experience two high tide and two low tides in a day. The tides are experienced due to the moon gravitational pull. The low tides are experienced when we are facing 90 and 180 degrees away from the moon. Then the high tides are found when we are facing the moon and when we are facing away from the moon.
Good morning/ Afternoon Teacher I am Rachel Perkins And I was asked by The Australian Film Institute to be here to today to talk about my musical. My musical One Night The Moon which was the winner of the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Cinematography in a Non-Feature Film in 2001. I am also here to talk about how distinctive voices are used to show the experiences of others. The voices of Albert and Jim are two characters that give us two different perspectives this is due to their views. Albert one of the characters in my film is an Aboriginal character played by Kenton Pell who is hired by the police as a tracker. Albert is a very deeply spiritual person this gave him a spiritual voice throughout the play but when he get 's kick off the land and banned from the search the gets frustrated which gave him this really emotional voice. This event has a greater meaning which I will elaborate on later and now Onto Jim. Jim is your 1930s white Australian that owns a farm and is going through tough times because of the Great depression. Jim does not allow Albert to find his daughter, This is due to his racist and prejudiced views of black Australians. Jim has an authorial voice because he see’s himself as inferior. Near to the end of
In The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, the main character, Peekay, notes that many deaths of those close to him occur during the full moon. He regards the full moon as a difficult time. However, the full moon also serves another purpose. In The Power of One, the full moon brings Peekay both physical and mental strength to conquer his fears. With this strength, he experiences a spiritual death and rebirth during the full moon.
Mos Def begins his verse with a beautiful, vivid description of the New York skyline. With the line, “the new moon rode high in the crown of the metropolis,” he establishes the dominance and almost royal nature of the city which presides over its people. A “new moon” is dark and invisible, and therefor is a symbol for the shadowy, gloomy world of New York City life. Conversely, he could be referencing the Islamic new moon as Mos Def changed his stage name to Yasiin Bey following a conversion to Islam. According to Muslim traditions, a new moon is not representative of despair, yet rather a symbol of faith and divinity. By continuing with this interpretation, the purity of the “new moon” is “high” above the “metropolis” and therefor teasing the people of the city and giving them little hope for obtaining such purity. In the following line, “shinin like who on top of this?” the moon simply taunts the petty human beings whom it overlooks. In the end, the creations and achievements of man pale in comparison to that of nature.
Carson begins to propose that the moon is in fact responsible for pulling currents in certain movements, rhythms, and speeds depending on the location. Her way of further explaining includes calling out to her readers. She uses this tactic to let her readers subconsciously add vital input in proving her claim. “Anyone who has lived near tide wafer knows that the moon, far more than the sun, controls the tides. He has noticed that, just as the moon rises later each day by fifty minutes, on the average, then the day before, so, in most places, the time of high tide is correspondingly later each day." (The Moving Tides, pg. 1)
War affects everyone involved - the conquerors and those being conquered. War is a struggle that is internal and external. Man can be a dedicated and loyal soldier for only so much at a time. He then longs for laughter, music, girls, a good meal and more. In The Moon is Down, the soldiers feel the need to return home. They begin to doubt what they are doing and if they are being told the truth. They become uneasy when the enemy doesn't talk to them. The townspeople's hatred is growing. They remained indoors and stared from behind curtains while the patrol walked through the town.

Whether it is a full moon, a waxing crescent, or a new moon, many wonder what is out there. If there is more to the universe, than just Earth. The Moons of Jupiter are an unknown topic to many, and there are many interesting facts about it. Galileo Galilei, born in 1564 played a huge role in most of the science we know today, and it is because of him we are beginning to understand the moons of Jupiter. All these moons of Jupiter’s have their own reason as to which they stand out why. All in all, even though the moons of Jupiter’s are unknown to many, it is an important piece to connecting the puzzle in our universe.
Rachel Perkins hybrid musical drama One Night the Moon set in the 1930’s Australian outback and Malala Yousafzai’s ‘speech to the UN’ in 2013 were composed to raise awareness and reveal truths of multiple perspectives, representing the voice of the unheard and disempowered in juxtaposition to the dominant and powerful. Both Perkins and Yousafzai challenge societal expectations of their context, advocating for all voices to be heard and for the potential unity between cultures and races through education and shifts in paradigm.
The use of color inside the house is symbolic to the mood. The almost yellow fluorescent lighting is ironic when compared to the first image of the painting since the painting had set the expectations of an enthusiastic film. The yellow tint throughout the house is also conflicting since yellow is known to be a luminous color. Yellow usually represents happiness and warmth which are emotions that lacks in the Bishop household. The dim lighting also mirrors the gloomy and dark weather outside. An extreme long shot of the outside house captures the darkness of the sky which prompts unhappy emotions. When Susy proceeds outside to check the mailbox the change in weather is instantly noticeable since the sky transitioned from gray to blue and the
Next my gaze is drawn upward to the golden dome and crescent moon covering the Mosque. Many non-Muslims are of the belief that Muslims pray or worship a "moon god". We do not. We believe in the same God as Christians and Jews. We believe in the oneness of God', the Creator of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. The crescent moon reflects our practice of adhering to the lunar calendar, or God's calendar, rather than the Georgian calendar, or man's calendar. This is why many Mosques will have a crescent moon topping the domes.
Outer space according to Dictionary.com is defined as "the physical universe outside of the earths atmosphere". Over the entire existence of mankind we have always wondered what is out there. The moon is one object that many people have always fathomed about. The moon is fathomed about in 3 aspects. Conclusively, the moon is present during important moments within the novel and despite sometimes being noticed by Mikage, it still plays a role in implying certain themes and recurring notions such as finding the light within despair and new beginnings. Mikage’s journey through ‘Kitchen’ is effectively highlighted with the use of the moon.
The moon is a wondrous thing. Every night it's outside, up high in the sky, giving light to the world. Most people take advantage of the moon's light, because they don't know why or how the moon shines. Scientists today are busy proving theories and studying the moon, which will hopefully help society to understand the moon more. They know a lot about the moon, but there is still much more to learn.
