British English (Brtish English; BrE), also known as British English, primarily living in the British Isles of England (England) who rules of English, as the British and the official language of the country.
This paper studies the differences between British English and American English, is divided into three chapters pronunciation, letters, culture and so on. These three characteristics are primarily to discuss the differences between the two. In addition, this study will also be in the USA now cultural, social phenomenon as the background, in-depth analysis of the differences between the two, to increase its readers understanding of both. Pronunciation: all around the world, English accents are different, but this is not a serious problem, as long as the general spends some time, probably can easily habits around the accent. Just think, even in the same country, the same language or pronunciation and tone may be different, like American of eastern and southern people speak English sounds are very different, so much more people from different countries? British English and American English have its significant difference, the pronunciation, the retroflex as an example, both British English or American English, when in the vowel before, the speaker will send a sound, but if appear after a vowel, British people generally don't send sound, but to speak American English people will be retroflex clearly.

While some features of AAVE are apparently unique to this variety, in its structure it also shows many similarities with other varieties including a number of standard and nonstandard English varieties spoken in the US and the Caribbean. Speakers and writers of this dialect use some distinctive aspects of the phonological, lexical, and grammatical traits associated with this dialect. Many sociolinguists would reserve the term AAVE for varieties which are marked by the occurrence of certain distinctive grammatical features.
This chapter focused mainly on misconceptions and attempting to clarify those misconceptions about accents. In the opinion of linguists, accent is a difficult word to define. This is due to the fact that language has variation therefore when it comes to a person having an accent or not, there is no true technical distinction because every person has different phonological aspects to their way of speaking. However, when forced to define this word, it is described as “a way of speaking” (Lippi-Green, 2012, p.44). Although Lippi- Green identified the difficulty linguists have in distinguishing between accent, dialect, and another language entirely, they were able to construct a loose way of distinguishing. Lippi- Green states that an accent can be determined by difference in phonological features alone, dialect can be determined by difference in syntax, lexicon, and semantics alone, and when all of these aspects are different from the original language it is considered another language entirely (Lippi-Green, 2012).
In the article “Do You Speak American?,” Robert MacNeil is trying to reach the american public, especially those who do not have a complete understanding of the ongoing changes that are happening to the English that is spoken throughout the United States. He uses a multitude of examples to prove this very fact. For one he wants to inform the people that one reason for this change is that average people now have more influence in the way language is spoken.Which to him is a good thing. He enjoys the new evolution that American English has undertaken. He believes that it is a step in the right direction. Another, example he uses are the changes different regions and/or group of people have made on the English language. He uses the different accents and dialect to show the growth and improvement that occurred. Even though, some linguist view these changes as wrong, MacNeil views them as necessary and as something that is unique to the United States. In essence, a necessary growth that only makes the United States grow into a better country. Thus, making it more diverse.

English is commonly spoken in the United States of America. Even though this is true not all English is the same. Many different people have trouble communicating because of this. Immigrants may speak a broken English while nonimmigrant speak a clear English. The same goes for men and women. We may both speak it clear, but we say things differently. English will always be used in the United States of America but will not always be understood. Because of speaking the same language differently, it puts many people here in the United States of America at a disadvantage.
The English language is at least one of the official languages in over 80 countries (Wikipedia). By having a declared official language, that means it is the language used within its government – its courts, parliament, administration, etc. – to run its operations and conduct its business. ("Official Language", 1998.) English is spoken all over the world, but it is still not completely understood by everyone who speaks it.

It comes from three different periods of time; Old English (Anglo Saxon), Middle English, and Modern English. Despite the fact that English is considered one language, there are many regional varieties called dialects spoken all over the world. Although these dialects are mutually intelligible by English speakers, they are quite different. For example, British English is markedly different than American English. British speakers pronounce words differently and use a different vocabulary. Some words and phrases have different meanings in American English versus British English. One example is the word “bathroom.” If an American were to ask where the bathroom is in a British home, they might be sent to a room with a bath and no toilet, which is probably not what the American wanted. The two dialects may even differ in grammar in some cases. For example, “gotten” is considered correct in American English, but in British English, “got” is used.

The British English was the language which had the biggest influence on current American English. Thus, it is important to introduce the features of British English.
The English language arose from the early Anglo Saxon inhabitants in ancient England and spread to Scotland and other European countries via the British Empire and later to the United States through colonial political and economical influences. It later dispersed to other parts of the world through these same influences to become one of the leading languages of the world. It has over the years developed by adopting different dialects to create a language, which is the standard lingual Franca in many countries. The rapid growth of the English language and its adoption by different cultures across the globe is sufficient ground to make it the global language.

Luckily, the United Kingdom’s official language is English, although more than 300 languages are spoken throughout the city because of its diverse culture. English is known for having many different dialects therefore, the U.S. and the U.K. may differ slightly (Languages of the United Kingdom). Translations may be needed in some parts of the city, luckily we have technology that can help us with that.
