The development of technology grows rapidly, as there are various high tech products that are coming out constantly. Technology plays an essential and indispensable role in our daily lives, and it is also the way of interacting with others. Technology seems to be really convenient to us. We can get tons of information from it, we can entertain ourselves, and communicate with others immediately and easily. However, technology brings a big problem in our real lives, since the relationship among people is negatively affected due to the development of technology. The main cause of this problem is that the development of technology has been changing people’s lifestyles. We overuse and depend on the digital devices excessively. According to Google’s research, the rate of mobile Internet usage in Hong Kong is the highest in Asia Pacific. In Hong Kong, the fact is that 96% of the smartphone users use their phones on a daily basis (Google’s Research, 2013). For instance, it is not surprising that people are not only waiting bus at the bus stop, but also using their smartphones. Smartphone addiction is increasingly serious nowadays, it generates many personal, family and social problems. Nowadays, we are not just eating during our dinner time, we are scrolling the screen of our smartphones at the same time. Also, we are not just chatting with our friends in the gathering, all of us are bowing our head and using our smartphones. Those familiar situations simply imply that we are all “alone together”, which means people are being together while not being together (Turkle, 2011).
